Government Relations Manager
Our client’s members own and operate the largest, cleanest and most technologically advanced fleet of cars, vans and trucks in the UK. The association is looking for an experienced government relations professional that can keep its members informed and enhance their reputation with government and parliamentarians. We need a flexible, motivated team member that can take on a wide-ranging brief with numerous advocacy objectives. The position The Government Relations Manager will help stimulate and promote awareness of the rental and leasing vehicle industry to parliamentarians and key policymakers across UK but with specific focus on Westminster and Whitehall. Main responsibilities Provide both written and oral reports of ongoing activities to the organisation’s members through representation at its internal committees, plus regular updates through the weekly updates channel and quarterly news publication Represent the organisation in external meetings, cross-organisational committees, speaking conferences, and other sector or member-based events Provide input and feedback on key developments to all members of the policy and communication team Manage relationships with government representatives, Whitehall officials, Select Committee members and special advisers, and other external audiences to drive forward the sector policy agenda and seek to influence positive outcomes Participate in the development and implementation of a public affairs strategy around agreed priorities and concerns of members, including an accessible and regularly maintained stakeholder list Main Skills and experience required Strong experience working in public affairs engagement, such as political consultancy, think-tank, trade association or regulatory environment e.g. financial services; A deep understanding of the policy-making and political process in the UK, ideally with some knowledge of the UK's transport, environment, and business environments; Shrewd observer of the political scene in the UK and EU, with the ability to identify issues that may impact member interests in good time to take effective action.
