Title: Family Engagement Facilitator (HeadStart)
Hourly rate: £11.28/£22,000 pro rata (£14,664)
Hours per week: 25 (Fixed term contract until 4th January 2021)
Responsible to: Health & Wellbeing Team Leader
Location: YMCABCG Temple Street, Wolverhampton and a number of outreach locations within our funded Area B (Springfield, Heath Town, Park Village, Old Heath and Eastfield).

YMCA Black Country Group (YMCABCG) is a group of YMCA charitable companies & associated trading subsidiaries operating in the Black Country and South Staffordshire area. The charity employs around 230 staff across several sites, delivering a wide range of community services including supported housing, youth work, childcare and family support, drug and alcohol support interventions, skills and employment training, health and wellbeing services, and work in prisons.

Job Role:
To support the Health and Wellbeing team to deliver activities and workshops for the HeadStart project within area B, Wolverhampton. You will work with the parents and carers of the children and young people engaged with HeadStart. You will work with the parents and carers to empower them to improve their own and their family’s emotional resilience and mental wellbeing. You will support parents and carers to ‘dream big’ and not be ‘trapped’ in the identity of a ‘parent/carer’ and instead empower them as an individual and valued community member. You will empower parents/carers to upskill themselves, enhance relationships with their children, communities and peers, develop self-care coping strategies to cope with life’s challenges and encourage a school/home life balance. You will coordinate a weekly timetable and work with your colleagues to develop and deliver engaging group and one-to-one activities and workshops.
Accurate record keeping, impact assessment and data entry are vital to the role.
You must have your own transport to enable you to travel to outreach locations in Wolverhampton and on occasions the wider Black Country. The role will involve evening and weekend work. The post holder must be able to respect the Christian Ethos of the YMCA and uphold its values. A DBS clearance will also be required.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. To coordinate and deliver engaging and creative workshops/activities that support the development of emotional resilience and improved mental health that are inclusive and relevant to the cohort.
2. To build effective relationships with schools, parents/carers, families communities and local organisations.
3. To actively promote Health and Wellbeing activities through social media platforms and other sources.
4. To work with key partners to help to reduce the stigma of mental health using a variety of platforms.
5. To recruit and support Parent Champion volunteers, developing good working relationships ensuring the priorities of the role are met and the voice of the parents/carers are heard.
6. To complete one-to-one assessments with individuals creating a personalised care plan of interventions with regards to health and wellbeing support programmes.
7. To make contact with the identified client group through pro – active working.
8. To keep mental health resources current and explore advancing coping strategies including SUMO.
9. To utilise the central data system, ensuring that data and progress is recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
10. To produce reports on progress of individuals and numbers engaged, ensuring this is inputted within a wider reporting framework for funding and destination tracking purposes.
11. To maintain records, financial data and statistics as directed by the Line Manager.
12. To be responsible for material assets supplied as part of the post (e.g. lap top, mobile phone, project equipment etc)
13. To ensure all aspects of policies and procedures are followed at all times with a positive attitude and a high level of consistent service.
14. To be client focused, polite, professional, engaging to clients and colleagues, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
15. To work within set budgets provided by your Line Manager and to be responsible for monthly reviews for each client.
16. Undertake evening (after school) and weekend working as required.

Experience Essential Desirable
Delivering engaging, creative and relevant Health and Wellbeing programmes to adults (parents/carers) 
Delivering therapeutic based workshops to improve mental health and wellbeing 
Developing engaging session plans with clear aims and objectives 
Working independently on own initiative with little day-to-day supervision. 
Encouraging healthy lifestyle change and future planning within disadvantaged groups 
Delivering consistent results based on set targets and objectives. 
Understanding the requirements of quality standards to be achieved within the health and wellbeing arena. 
Working with people with complex needs and challenges, (e.g. Mental ill-health, anger issues, learning disabilities, substance misuse issues and those at risk of offending behaviour.) 
Supporting volunteers to assist in programme delivery to become ‘experts by experience’ 
Experience of working in Wolverhampton and/or knowledge of the local areas 
Relevant degree, or equivalent level of qualification, in health & wellbeing or mental health field i.e. public health, counselling, psychology and/or 2 years’ relevant experience 
Mental Health First Aid or equivalent qualification (or willing to train)
Current first aid qualification (or willing to train)
Level 3 or above Information Advice and Guidance qualification 
Alcohol/Substance Misuse Awareness 
Demonstrate empathy and regard for others and respect individual rights of autonomy and confidentiality. 
Ability and confidence to deliver sessions to disadvantaged people and to be able to maintain client commitment and involvement. 
Excellent interpersonal skills, which put clients, volunteers and peer mentors at ease and maximises their potential development. 
Ability to apply knowledge to encourage and motivate clients to make positive changes to their health and wellbeing. 
Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively (1-to-1, group work) both verbally and in writing. 
Demonstrable time management and organisational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritise own workload 
Good budgeting skills – able to manage and keep within budget. 
Able to produce excellent reports on outcomes, progression and service evaluations. 
Excellent administration and accurate record keeping producing information as required to deadline. 
Ability to work as part of a team and under own initiative. 
An ability to work alongside partner agency staff. 
Ability to use different marketing platforms (incl. social media) to promote services and key issues affecting children, young people and their families (incl. mental health) 
Thorough understanding of mental health illnesses and how parents can support themselves and their families and apply a variety of self-care coping strategies. 
Demonstrate excellent knowledge of what constitutes a healthy lifestyle. 
Demonstrate clear understanding of the nutritional benefit of a variety foods and the application of this to support improved mental wellbeing. 
Demonstrate an understanding of the benefits of physical activity and the application of this to enhance mental wellbeing. 
Awareness of budget constraints and money management and the impact this can have on running/maintain an effective household 
Demonstrate an understanding of different health conditions, cultures, cultural practices, and the ability to work with sensitivity to these issues. 
