We are looking for an IT Network Lead to join our Service Managementteam within Exeter IT. You will lead a team of specialists andengineers, ensuring that the University's IT network services andassociated hardware and software are monitored and maintained, todeliver the uninterrupted activity of operational services. Theseinclude high performance networks, VPNs, voice, wired and wirelessnetworks, JANET research and academic network, and intrusion prevention systems. To support the Infrastructure Manager in the development and continuousimprovement of an innovative and customer focussed service, driving theteam to produce greater consistency and efficiency through use ofstandard procedures, processes and use of systems, alongside bespokeinnovative solutions as required. The role: - You will support the Infrastructure Manager in the development andcontinuous improvement of an innovative and customer focussed service,driving the team to produce greater consistency and efficiency throughuse of standard procedures, processes and use of systems, alongsidebespoke innovative solutions as required. - You will be responsible for the performance of IT network servicesand associated hardware and software, and ensure they meet agreedservice levels, and working with 3rd party suppliers to deliver aneffective service to the business. - You will be responsible for the monitoring and analysis, performancetuning, load balancing, and preventative maintenance to ensure thenetwork performance is able to meet user demand and reduce the risk ofunplanned outages. - You will also be in control of enabling an environment that supportscross functional and rapid application development where existingapplications and platforms are rapidly changing and require an AgileDevOps software development approach. - And you will provide mentorship and supervision to more juniorcolleagues where appropriate. You will: - Have a working knowledge of Experience of managing a large data /voice network. - A good understanding of a broad range of network technologies including: * TCP/IP * DNS * DHCP * IPv4/IPv6 * Subnetting * Intrusion prevention systems * IP Telephony * 802.11 enterprise networks * Firewalls * VPN Technology And if you have an understanding of further networks outlined in theperson spec, that would be great, but not essential. - Demonstrate experience of the review and diagnosis and successfuldelivery of solutions to complex problems in a measured and creativeway, demonstrating the ownership of issues and opportunities. - Be a keen problem solver with demonstrable skills, and a methodical approach. - Demonstrate leadership experience, preferably within a matrixenvironment, with the ability to drive your team to deliver against keypriorities as and when they arise.
