Location: Blaise, West Malling, Nr Maidstone, Kent

Rate of Pay: Competitive

Job Purpose

To control and organise waste movements, including the transfer/broker of waste for the facility, liaising with waste producers, hauliers and third party treatment providers in order to ensure an efficient service is provided. The position has responsibility for the day to day supervision of the Plant Operatives and comes under the direction of the Group Operations Manager.

Principal Duties

- Lead on the carrying out of audits on third party contractors, material destinations and hauliers to ensure regulatory and duty of care compliance are met
- Assist in the organising of work rotas and staffing levels
- Assessing work rotas to ensure that adequate staffing levels are maintained
- Monitoring health and safety and environmental arrangements on site to include, walk around inspections of site, observational behaviours audits, contractor monitoring
- Assisting in the production of accident reports and investigations
- Ensuring compliance with relevant waste management legislation and company policies
- Ensuring the composting process is in accordance with the Working Plan
- Collection of monitoring and process data
- Monitor and maintain the efficiency of the odour control systems on site including ongoing chemical scrubber maintenance and routine bio filter checks
- Lead on the daily monitoring of the performance assessment of the SCADA system and site infrastructure to control site function’s, including ventilation, leachate and water management
- Organise and/or undertake daily inspection of plant and equipment and ensure that machinery daily check sheets are being completed
- Assist in maintaining and developing the company’s integrated management system (IMS) and maintain accreditation to OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards, and internal and external audits for the site
- Responsible for site KPI’s data entry and data management, analysis and presentation

The Successful Applicant

Must possess the following skills:

- Proven experience of supervising a team with experience in an agricultural, civil engineering, quarrying, waste, composting or similar field
- A broad knowledge and ability to operate a range of plant and equipment
- An understanding of Health and Safety and environmental legislation
- Good understanding of data collection, analysis and presentation
- Experience of Quality and Environmental Management Systems
- Knowledge of health and safety systems and their practical application
- Will be a team player self-motivated with the ability to work well unsupervised and be able to manage their time effectively.

In addition it would be beneficial if the applicant had or was willing to gain the following:

PAS100 & ABPR training;
COTC Level 4 - IVC
