Junior Mechanical Development Engineer (Fluid Dynamics)

We are seeking a Junior Development Engineer to join the R&D department at one of the UK's leading consumer product manufacturers. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, this important role will be intrinsic in helping the business achieve its growth targets over the next few years.

It's likely you'll be a Mechanical Engineering graduate with some experience in industry designing fluid handling products and systems. There is scope to become the technical expert in the business moving forward.

Main Duties/Responsibilities;

* Project responsibilities will be focused on New Product Development, but will also include Tactical Customer Projects and Current Product Development.
* Concept design of new technology products to meet the functional and cost requirements.
* Communicate ideas with drawings, sketches, support with any technical calculations analytical studies using engineering theory
* Concept development to proof of principle design to validate technical feasibility, mindful of ease of manufacture and assembly of components.
* Define materials to be used in designs and the manufacturing processes to create them.
* Test models, develop and report.
* Provide solutions to problems and initiate improvements to resolve.
* Specify components in a design that can be sourced from a supplier - liaise and communicate with suppliers.
* Basic layout work / 3D sketch modelling (Solidworks).
* Provide technical advice/guidance to the design team to resolve complex problems thereby delivering a robust design intent.
* Analyse problems and derive cost-effective solutions.

Person specification / Core Competencies:

* Excellent track record in mechanical engineering with 2+ years experience.
* Appreciation of fluid mechanics and CFD.
* Basic understanding of pumps and sealing systems.
* Good working knowledge of plastics and injection mould tooling desirable, but not essential
* Good working knowledge of other manufacturing processes and tooling i.e. die-castings and machined parts (aesthetic & functional applications).
* "Hands-on" - building of prototypes and product testing in the lab.
* Good working knowledge of electro mechanical design including PCB's, switches, solenoids, motors etc etc.
* Specific experience on NPD, cost-saving and quality.
