The Control Systems Design Engineer will be required to specify, develop and support the design of control systems for specialist vehicles used in both construction and warehousing. The Control Systems Design Engineer will have a methodical and systematic approach, be able to work as part of a team or individually as well as being pragmatic and having a good attention to detail. The Control Systems Design Engineer will also have a desire to learn and train others, the ability to work with partial information and minimal supervision, the ability to produce efficiently a consistent high quality of work and have a flexible approach to working hours.

Duties and experience
• Specify the design of control systems based on machine level
specifications and stakeholders’ requirements;
• Manage the requirements of all stakeholders to ensure a cost effective,
reliable and safe design;
• Develop control systems from initial concepts through to fully
implemented, tested and proven production solutions (either from the
ground up or from an existing design);
• Support the design of control systems from initial prototype through to
series production;
• Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs);
• Interface with other areas of the Engineering function to ensure the
efficient integration of the control system into the wider product;
• Liaise with Purchasing and suppliers to specify components;
• Liaise with Production to ensure design feasibility;
• Manage project work and be able to work on multiple projects

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role and the organisations overall business objectives.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:
In addition to a strong engineering background, the ideal candidate will have:
• A Degree in a field relevant to electronics and control (candidates
without a degree will be considered if they can demonstrate extensive
and relevant industry experience);
• At least 3 years’ experience in a relevant role;
• Experience in control system development for complex electro-
mechanical systems;
• Knowledge of PLC logic and programming (knowledge of programming
using CoDeSys would be advantageous but not essential, especially
using FBD ‘Functional Block Diagram’ and ST ‘Structured Text’
• Strong problem-solving ability;
• Excellent communication skills.
