Due to expansion, my client is looking for an IT Support Technician to assist and report to the Technical Manager.

It will involve delivering a very high level of customer service to other employees and customers of the business in a welcoming, friendly & professional manner via telephone, e-mail and face-to-face. You’ll be able to explain problems and solutions clearly to non-technical users and require the ability to work under your own initiative as you will be part of a small and fast growing team.

The candidate will assist in maintaining the internal IT infrastructure including servers, network and telephony equipment. Performing and reporting on daily tasks such as server backups, performance and capacity monitoring. The role will include assisting with research, planning and implementing improvements to the infrastructure on a project basis. It will also include manual handling such as moving desks and IT equipment.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Talking to clients to get details of faults.
• Working out the reasons for a fault and explaining these to the client.
• Fixing equipment, including printers and scanners (known as peripherals).
• Setting up new equipment and upgrading existing systems.
• Testing and servicing equipment.
• Recording problems and their solutions for future reference.
• Training clients on new systems or software applications.

Essential Criteria

• Good level of understanding and administration of a Microsoft Windows Server Active Directory environment.
• Be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the major Microsoft packages such as Windows XP, Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010.
• Working knowledge of a virtualised computing environment.
• Full clean driving licence.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience of administrating a Microsoft Exchange Server.
• Advanced understanding of physical computing environments including, physical servers (preferably HP) and NAS technology.
• Advanced understanding of LAN/WAN technology.
• Experience of modern telephony systems including VOIP, preferably Mitel.
• Experience of working with HTML and CSS.
• Good level of understanding of Photoshop.
• Good project management skills.
• Related industry qualification(s) such as Microsoft certifications, CompTIA A+ or similar

• A patient and methodical approach.
• The ability to explain problems and solutions clearly to non-technical users.
