Job Summary

Regent Independent College are looking to hire a teacher to teach the Science Curriculum across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, with a particular emphasis on the delivery of Biology. This is a Full-time position that would suit someone who is fully qualified and is looking for a new opportunity to commence in the new academic year (18-19).

Responsibilities and Duties


Be a role model for students inspiring them to be actively interested in Science.

Teach Science to groups from all abilities across years 10 – 13, with a particular emphasis on the delivery of Biology.

Undertake a designated programme of teaching across all key stages.

Use excellent subject knowledge to teach the course content to a diverse student population.

Teach consistently high quality lessons.

Ensure that all lessons are planned with clear aims and objectives
Use technology to support teaching which is engaging and exciting.

Plan lessons that match the full range of learners’ needs.

Ensure all lessons are delivered in line with departmental schemes of work and school policies and meet the requirements of KS4 and KS5.

Take into account the differing abilities of students and differentiate work accordingly.

Check that all subject matter is effectively communicated and understood by all groups of students.

Set appropriate tasks and challenges for homework according to the homework timetable.

Maintain appropriate records to provide relevant, accurate and up to date information for SIMS registers.

Maintain discipline in accordance with the school procedures and encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour and standards of work and homework.

Contribute to extra-curricular provision.

Update professional knowledge and expertise as appropriate to keep up to date with developments in teaching practice and methodology both in general and in the curriculum area of Science.

Assessment, Feedback & Training

Mark, grade and give written/verbal and diagnostic feedback as required.

Monitor and evaluate the assessment and feedback to students in line with the policy of the College.

Undertake assessments of students as requested by internal and external departments/bodies.

Record and report on the attendance, progress, development and attainment of students and keep such records as are required.

Complete all relevant documentation to assist in the tracking of student progress and use it to inform learning & teaching.


Continue personal development in the relevant areas including subject knowledge and teaching methods.

Participate in whole school CPD.

Promote teamwork with in the Science department.

Engage in the Performance Management/Annual Appraisal process.

Act as a positive role model and promote the aims, values and ethos of the College and uphold all rules & policies.

Attend department meetings, parents meetings, parents’ evenings, whole school meeting, liaison events, professional development activities etc.

Undertake lunchtime supervisory duties.

Pastoral Responsibilities

Be a form tutor to an assigned group of students if and when required.
Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students within your tutor group.

Monitor student absence in lessons and ensure that follow-up procedures are put in place where necessary.

Contribute to the delivery of PSHE.

Contribute to the preparation of Action Plans as required.

Meet with students where there are concerns and contact home where necessary in conjunction with student support teams.

Register students, accompany them to assemblies, encourage their full attendance at all lessons and their participation in other aspects of College life.


Be keenly aware of the responsibility for safeguarding children and to the monitoring and implementation of Safeguarding processes.

Comply with the school’s Safeguarding Policy in order to ensure the welfare of children and young persons.


Play a full part in the life of the school community and support its mission and ethos.

Comply with the Schools Health & Safety policy and undertake risk assessments as appropriate.

Be courteous to colleagues, visitors and telephone callers and provide a welcoming environment.

Undertake duties before the school day, at break, at the end of the lunch period and after the school day on rota basis.

Set cover work during any leave of absence.

Adhere to the School’s Safeguarding Policy.

Qualifications and Skills

Science specialist in teaching GCSE & A Levels with a particular emphasis on Biology.

Candidates must be fully qualified. (QTS or PGCE)

Experience in teaching various curriculum's, syllabuses and specification.
You should have two years plus of experience in teaching.

Candidates should be able to teach multiple examination boards or at least Edexcel or AQA.

Candidates should be lively and enthusiastic and demonstrate a passion for their subject with an ability to impart this to their students, an ability to motivate and a desire to achieve success.

Candidates should be computer literature and experienced in using the Microsoft Office package.

It would be an advantage if the candidate has experience in dealing with UCAS and/or acting as a Form/Group Tutor.

It would be an advantage, though not a necessity, if the candidate is familiar with using SIMS.

Have a current DBS or a willingness to undertake one
