We are looking for a Contract Senior Mechanical Engineer to join this new Oxford based diagnostics & instrumentation technology company. With solid financing from the international parent company, their technology is set to revolutionise the life science, healthcare and biotech sectors. Their novel microfluidics platform can automate test methods offering unprecedented control, accuracy and flexibility. The company have ambitious growth plans and so offer excellent career development potential -as well as an attractive financial package. As a Contract Senior Mechanical Engineer you will take responsibility for development of the company`s disposable lab-on-a chip device and contribute to the general engineering and product development activity within the company. Contract Senior Mechanical Engineer responsibilities: Development and design of components and assembly methods for microfluidic cartridges and associated parts including: Plastic housings for the disposable lab-on-a-chip device; Interface between the disposable device and fluid input apparatus; Capsules for storage and delivery of carrier fluids required for device operation. You will also be responsible for: Ensuring the company's disposable products meet quality standards. Liaison with customers regarding the design and specification of disposable products and other mechanical engineering topics. Identifying, negotiating and liaising with external manufacturing partners and suppliers. Incorporation of new technology components into the company's products Acting as Product Owner within the company's product development process. Supporting mechanical engineering activities across the company. Supervision and mentoring of junior staff. Required Skills & Experience for Contract Senior Mechanical Engineer Essential: Minimum 2:1 BEng / MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering from a leading university Significant industry experience including a minimum of 5 years' experience in leading mechanical engineering projects including managing external manufacturing partners, suppliers/consultants and Customer communication & management. Experience in design for manufacture (DfM) of plastic/polymer components Capability to operate and manage CAD software and systems Experience in working within a quality management system, preferably ISO13485 Desirable (but not essential): Masters or PhD degree in a mechanical engineering related field. Knowledge of microfluidic techniques and technologies Experience employing and managing engineering contractors Experience of product development for medical devices or in-vitro diagnostic devices Experience of leading a team of multidisciplinary engineers developing products including mechanical, optical and electronic components Vacancy Location: Oxford Contract`s Length: 6 months (with possible extension). Salary: £35-45/h
