Our client, who has been at the forefront of international publishing for more than half a century with publications serving half a million readers across four continents is looking for an outstanding technical specialist to join our team. You will engage in full project life cycle (Responsible for the coding, innovative design, deployment and maintaining software and servers on our VMware and cloud servers) and offer technical expertise to engineers, responsible for project delivery and installations, configuring and installing a wide range of complex technology based solution projects for ourselves and clients of ours. Job Duties The main duties will include producing solution designs and supporting documentation as well as investigating and resolving project issues and recommending and evaluating new technologies to ensure that our product portfolio evolves with the requirements. The successful candidate will undertake installations of new IT technologies, install complex network and software solutions, diagnose faults to a high level and create and implement technical best practices and standard departmental processes. The candidate should be able to provide technical support to junior team members. Responsibilities: Working within a team of IT professionals and Engineers. Designing, adjusting, improving and building solutions using a wide array of technology. Writing well designed, testable, re-usable and efficient code by using the best software development practices. Keeping up to date on technology, cloud platforms, networking, storage etc. Maintaining the existing system (Windows Servers / MSSQL Database Servers / VM Ware) and troubleshooting Backing up all data and providing security measurements and recommendations to improve the system Obtaining past records and checking for vulnerabilities, threats and make recommendations concerning software/system quality and security. Compare current DRS (disaster recovery) procedures and make recommendations for secured and a reliable disaster recovery system Responsible for upgrading the current system (VB/VB.net + Access) to the latest technologies (ASP.net + MSSQL) Integrate data from various back-end services and databases (SQL, Access and MySQL) Any applicants must have the following qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience to be considered for this demanding role: Considerable experience in Microsoft Windows Server, SQL Server, VM Ware, latest cloud technologies and data base handling role (SQL, Access etc.). UK Masters degree or equivalent in computer sciences / cloud based technologies / software engineering / IT project management from a recognized university. Proven experience in working with software development technologies and databases and proficient in Apache, MySQL, PHP, C# environments and Visual Basic. Familiarity with at least one of the following programming languages: Python, JavaScript or Ruby on Rails An excellent understanding of how cloud based applications work including security and the best development practices Experience in working with cloud based web application is essential or a proven qualification (e.g. Azure or AWS). Be able to model proposed new processes and systems in spreadsheets and databases as a proof of concept prior to formal development and implementation. Hands-on experience with network diagnostics, network analytics tools. High degree of numeracy and accuracy. Candidate must be able to perform multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines and budget.
