We are looking for an innovative leader to manager a multi-disciplinary team. This is a strategic role where you will oversee committed, established and motivated Policy Officers who are producing the Local Plan as well as the Housing Policy Team as they explore council-led affordable housing development in the District for the first time in almost 30 years and also the Conservation and Design Team who are proactively delivering a new evidence base for the Local Plan and adding value to the Development Management process. We are proud of the Teams and what they are achieving and we have a vacancy for a manager who can deftly support and ensure their continued success. This role will be about overseeing and steering the direction of travel as you use your extensive knowledge of the Plan Making process to successfully deliver the Council’s new Local Plan. An important function will be in building relationships internally and externally as part of the Duty to Co-operate function. The Teams will tell you that they feel supported and encouraged personally and professionally to succeed. In fact the Teams helped draft this advert. We will empower you, invest in you, and help you to realise your potential. We want you to impress and have a real and lasting impact on the district. In this influential role you will work directly with Chief Officers, the Chief Executive and elected Members. Uniquely the Council is financially self-sufficient, has earned Platinum Investors in People and was LGC Council of the Year 2017. If you have a proven track record of managing teams to realise their full potential you will relish the opportunity to work for an authority where you are truly empowered to make things happen and deliver excellence. Sevenoaks District provides both urban and rural challenges. It is an attractive place to locate (93% Green Belt and 60% AONB) and being just half an hour from central London by train, there is plenty going on. We need someone with the creativity, skills and desire to take our services to the next level, inspire colleagues and get the best for all our customers. We put customer service at the heart of everything we do. For an informal discussion about this post please contact Richard Morris, Chief Planning Officer on 01732 227268.
