Food Procurement Manager

About Us:

Pubs have been at the very heart of Young’s since the Company was established in 1831, and today we have over 170 pubs and hotels, from contemporary vibrant pubs to small warm and friendly traditional favourites at the heart of their community. We are looking for a Food Procurement Manager to join the team. Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you will play an important role in delivering an on-strategy food offer to Young’s consumers whilst ensuring strong cost controls and margin delivery. You will work closely with our Executive Chef & his team, and liaise with a number of suppliers, managing a total spend of £22M.


  • Thorough appreciation of the Young’s Food Strategy and to ensure it is delivered across every step of the value chain
  • Liaison and negotiation with all food suppliers in conjunction with the Head of Procurement and the Executive Chef
  • Negotiation and ownership of food supplier contracts
  • Monitoring of cost movements of meat, fish, and fruit & fresh throughout the year
  • Ability to challenge business partners and suppliers to ensure the food offer is delivered at the right quality and cost
  • Ensure all steps are taken to achieve food profit budgets. Identify any margin decretive issues and recommend opportunities to improve them
  • Accurate forecasting and budgeting of Food costs and resulting margin impact, in conjunction with the Finance team
  • Ownership of Food purchase order system including preparing supplier prices, restricting sites to ordering recommended seasonal product, and setting up new suppliers and pubs
  • Calculate and collect retrospective discounts from suppliers
  • Arrange and host supplier meetings
  • Monitor and adjust supplier delivery schedules as required
  • Liaise with external auditors as required
  • Ownership of additional cost centres as required

What we look for in a Food Procurement Manager:

  • Experience in a similar role with food procurement knowledge
  • Extensive contract and negotiation experience with a proven track record of driving supplier performance across price, quality and delivery
  • Broad network and experience of existing food suppliers
  • Understanding of food commodities markets
  • Able to challenge constructively, incorporating strong commercial acumen
  • Excellent internal and external customer relationship and interpersonal skills
  • Highly numerate and analytical, with good attention to detail
  • IT literate with strong spreadsheet knowledge
  • Ideally some culinary experience
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Experience of working in a multi-site business
  • Self-motivated
  • Educated to degree level preferred
