Energy Technology Specialists in Engineering
The UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) have a number of positions for energy technology experts available in the central energy engineering team at Senior Executive Officer and Grade 7 level. These engineering roles will be expected to become a vital part of our centre of technology excellence, focussing on engineering technologies such as renewable generation, nuclear generation, electricity distribution and transmission, shale gas extraction, geothermal energy, the gas grid and unconventional oil recovery. You will also be expected to apply your engineering expertise across a wide range of BEIS’s other activities in the formulation of strategies and policies, for example in developing capabilities of the UK energy industry, and in the setting of levies and tariffs.
The cross-cutting nature of the role means that you will work on BEIS’s highest priority issues providing expert support for policy teams and building networks across the department. You will also help develop departmental energy modelling best practice and capability, continuing BEIS's leadership within this field.
As this is a highly technical role, we would expect the appointed person to have a high degree of training in a relevant engineering area such as a PhD qualified engineer with an interest in energy engineering. Chartered Engineering status through an approved professional body would be an advantage.
The candidate would be expected to have a ‘pick up and run with it’ mentality and be prepared to learn new skills as required in order to keep up with latest technology advances.
