The Company

My client is a successful global company that provides a variety of on-site Laboratory Services to major pharmaceutical companies. They have an exciting Lab Manager opportunity (operational only, no line management) at a respected pharmaceutical site ideal for a organised and proactive biological scientist with a background in tissue culture looking to take on operational responsibility for a well-equipped set of biological GxP laboratories.

The Job

This position is a challenging, multi-faceted role where you will manage the operations of a set of high profile GxP tissue culture laboratories and be the single point of contact for multiple people within the labs from technicians, scientists, to engineers.

This is a busy laboratory with a number of users. Using your organisational and people skills, you will liaise with multiple contacts to ensure the tissue culture labs are running smoothly. Using lean methodologies, 5s etc. you will champion improvements to processes, improving efficiency, reducing time and cost, enabling the scientists to have more time and resources to carry out their core duties.

Some activities include:

- Operational leadership of the laboratories
- Organising and leading regular lab group meetings and leading actions
- Working with suppliers to investigate deviations from SLAs by route cause analysis and report back findings and plans
- Assisting in development of SOP's for various assays particularly focused on reagents/consumables and cost saving recommendations
- Reviewing training of lab support staff
- Assisting with organised visits from internal/external partners and regulatory bodies.
- Maintaining and organising laboratory consumable inventories and provides reports to the Dept leadership team
- Performing laboratory inductions for internal/external and temporary lab users working in the area
- Providing operational support on projects to build understanding of business needs and identify opportunities for process improvements
- Facilitating visits of temporary lab users understanding their specific requirements

There will also be other activities related to equipment, facilities and health and safety.

About You

To apply for this role:

- You should demonstrate considerable experience working in a tissue culture laboratory with primary cell lines
- You will have experience with managing/supporting lab operations. For example, setting up a new lab, restructuring a lab, implementing process improvements using Lean sigma, CI etc
- You will have proven experience in a role with interaction and influencing other people
- Previous management experience is not essential although may be advantageous
- You should be educated to a degree level or equivalent in Biological Science or pharmaceutical science or similar
