Associate Director, School of the Humanities & Social Sciences University of Cambridge Grade 9 - £ 39,992 - £56,950 In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to offer a supplement to the salary range of up to £60,000 for a 5-year period. Any such supplement would be awarded on the basis of a demonstrable history of exceptional achievement and is entirely at the discretion of the University. The University of Cambridge seeks an ambitious major gifts fundraiser with the ability to help develop long-term holistic partnerships with high-level donors to ultimately secure financial support for the School of the Humanities & Social Sciences’ most critical priorities. It covers Economics, Education, History, Law, Human, Social and Political Science, History and Philosophy of Science and Land Economy. With breadth of vision at the heart of its approach, and an intrinsically global and interdisciplinary perspective, the School is at the forefront of research and teaching in the Humanities and Social Sciences, with benefits that impact directly on society. Priorities for which the School seeks philanthropic support for 2018 and beyond include; planned new buildings for two world-renowned faculties, the endowment of professorships and lectureships, the creation of innovative new gallery space in an historic Cambridge setting and funding for the remarkable graduate students who come to Cambridge to further their research careers. Fundraising potential is strong, with a clearly identified pool of alumni and non-alumni prospects capable of giving seven-figure gifts and above. Philanthropic gifts to the School in recent years have been transformational and include two eight-figure gifts to create major collaborative initiatives between the School and Cambridge Colleges. In autumn 2015, Cambridge launched its most ambitious fundraising campaign to date. The Dear World… Yours, Cambridge campaign for the University and Colleges looks to raise £2bn to attract the brightest minds, create the most inspiring environment for world-class research and enable Cambridge to continue to respond to the world’s biggest challenges. Contributing to the design and execution of the major gifts fundraising strategy for the Schools, you will help leverage partnerships with world-class academics and leaders across the School to deliver significant philanthropic income. Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, School of the Humanities and Social Sciences, and working closely with the Head of School and School Secretary, you will generate six- and seven-figure gifts from individuals, trusts and foundations, and/or corporations in the UK and internationally. You will be responsible for contributing to, and implementing a strategy to meet the School’s needs, for managing a complex donor/prospect pool, for articulating the School’s priority funding needs in order to engage potential donors effectively, and for matching those needs to particular donor interests. We are looking for a candidate with a proven track record in major gift fundraising and/or management of key relationships with donors. A strategic thinker, you will be capable of building strong relationships with high-value potential partners and senior academic stakeholders. You should have outstanding communication and social skills, and an ability to communicate complex concepts and ideas to variety of audiences. A creative and collaborative approach will be critical, as will be a passion for the research and educational mission of the University of Cambridge.
