Software Engineer/Developer Control Systems

Applied Industrial Systems Ltd. are looking to recruiting a Software Engineer/Developer for their growing PLC, SCADA and M & E integration business.

This position is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop technical skills, working within an experienced team of dedicated specialists.


The role would suit an individual that has demonstrable experience (university or industry) of developing well-structured software. A confident ability coding in programming languages including C++, full stack JavaScript and proprietary scripting languages is important; any experience of embedded and real-time development would be an advantage. The ideal candidate will thrive in a software engineering role that encompasses design, coding and commissioning control systems for client projects.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

• Coding of bespoke systems using a range of programming languages and products. Our clients are involved in national, large scale infrastructure projects
• Design including writing functional specifications. This may involve pre-project consultancy assignments, with time spent at client premises
• Development of web applications using modern tools and frameworks
• Set up and configuration of Windows and web-based systems
• Site commissioning and testing including writing factory and site acceptance test documents


Applied Industrial Systems (AIS) design, develop and deliver specialist control and monitoring systems, SCADA and integrated M&E systems for a wide range of applications for large infrastructure projects such as tunnel and traffic automation systems and building automation for high availability applications.

Qualifications & Skills:

• A minimum of either a degree or HND in a software based course preferably including some control systems engineering
• Working knowledge of modern software tooling such as VCSs (Subversion, Git), build tools, compilers, and technologies such as: SQL, regular expressions, JSON etc. desirable. Design techniques such as UML for class design, state machine diagrams and the like would also be useful.
• However, AIS is more interested in good programming ability than in specific skills. All our staff are constantly learning on the job and training is available and encouraged.
• The right candidate must be adaptable. As well as programming, the successful candidate will be asked to use graphics programs to create displays and illustrations, write reports and manuals and perform on-site commissioning.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision when required
• Be flexible in terms of hours of attendance and working at customer sites, on occasion work outside of normal office hours will be required during commissioning and testing of systems
