Duration: Permanent offering full time hours, Monday – Friday 39 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has become available at an established company for an Assembly Technician.
The job function is a diverse role, primarily involved in engineering activities with respect to instrument production, but also providing engineering support to other areas of the company.

The role requires a broad range of technical and engineering skills and understanding, principally with a focus on electronics and mechanics, but also optics and computing disciplines.

Specific responsibilities include:
Assembly and testing of equipment associated with our range of scientific instruments. This redominantly involves electronic and electro-mechanical assembly, but can also entail pneumatics and optics.

Full instrument, as well as sub assembly testing; ensuring conformance to test procedures/protocols.

Generate new or update existing production support literature i.e. test, assembly and operational procedures.

Take an active role in trouble-shooting technical problems, whether at a circuit board/component level or of a mechanical nature, ill-fitting parts.

Engage with suppliers in procuring materials for production, these delivered on time and to specification. Assist on technical matters relating to component selection, obsolescence or availability i.e. seek alternatives

Participate in the development of new products, from building and evaluating prototypes to validating design material and production documentation.

An all-embracing job specification for this position is not possible and working within a small team you will be expected to perform any other duties as required.

As the ideal candidate, you will have a high level of self-motivation and ideally a proven background
engineering with an excellent hands-on, practical approach to work. The successful candidate will have some mechanical and/or electronics knowledge perhaps gained through instrument design, manufacture or support work.

Preferably a BTEC NC in an engineering discipline, ideally electronics or mechanical. However, candidates with relevant experience and expertise will also be considered.
