Group Technical Manager



We are currently recruiting a Group Technical Manager for a well-established and local organisation; the successful candidate will be responsible for the following;


* To ensure robust process controls are in place for all aspects of manufacturing.

* To minimise foundry scrap and waste efforts in all foundry departments.

* To reduce the cost of manufacture.

Other Tasks:

* Optimise the melting practices to ensure quality is optimised at lowest cost in a safe environment

* Co-ordinate foundry improvement initiatives using appropriate lean tools, and training in best practice.

* Deputise for the Quality Manager.

* Work with the sales team to expand the range of materials produced.

* Train and develop existing team in best practices.

* Develop permanent solutions for customer concerns and advise on impact on %GM.

* Improve %GM on a part wise basis by implementation of good foundry practices that optimise yield and minimise non- value-added activities such as grinding.

* Be a role model for other employees and help create a vision for all a world class manufacturing plant making a good return for its stakeholders.

* Uphold the company's values always.

Limits of Authority:

1 To requisition consumable items from the stores.

1 Initiate internal CAR's.

1 To authorise overtime in line with policy.

1 To raise tooling requisitions for approval.

1 To raise any requisitions for approval.

1 First / second stage disciplinary (not dismiss).

Task Analysis:

* Discipline personnel in line with Company policy and report action to the General Manager.

* Ensure personnel perform as required in the execution of their duties and job descriptions.

* Ensure personnel are adequately trained to meet the needs of the organisation.

* Ensure that all personnel in area of responsibility meet the requirements of the Company's health and safety policy, including the use of the required safety equipment and the operation of any "Code of Safe Working Practice".
* Establish and maintain good employee relations.
* To develop and improve the skills and knowledge of all personnel in the department.

* To ensure all processes and procedures are adequately maintained in the event of absenteeism and alternative working patterns.

Quality Control

* Ensure that all departmental quality procedures are implemented and maintained.

* Maintain and improve agreed quality standards to ISO9001 in conjunction with the Quality Manager.

* In conjunction with the Quality Manager, develop systems in a manner that adds value.

* Take responsibility for:

- Internal work instructions

- Foundry scrap

- Grinding reduction

- Work Flow

- Operator training / recording

* The quality department will determine standards on a part wise basis.

- NPI at target %GM and %Scrap

* Become actively involved in process audits.

Day to Day Duties

* Co-ordinate the scrap reduction team, and ensure daily reviews occur.

* Attend daily NPI meeting

* Attend daily production meeting

* Monitor and implement improvements in areas such as:

- Yield

- Scrap

- PW reductions

* These key indicators will form the basis of monthly Board Reports.

* Train all staff in best practices as appropriate.

* Seek out all opportunities to increase profit.


* Ensure that labour costs, including overtime working, is minimised and monitored.

* Ensure KPI's are improved and visually managed in all areas.

* Recommend cost savings.

* Review manufacturing accounts and recommend improvements.

* Optimise purchase of raw materials to ensure lowest net costs.
