Our Shoreham-by-Sea engineering client is undergoing a substantial increase in business and has a vacancy for a Strategic Buyer which although is an ongoing contract, could be made permanent in the future.

General Requirements:

• Optimisation of purchasing in terms of cost saving opportunities
• Negotiations on price and supply contracts
• Analysis of usage data
• Technical/manufacturing background with an understanding of BOMS and engineering drawings essential.
• Act as a change driver in terms of current buying practices
• Ability to source parts/raw materials to meet production lead times
• Good working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems
• Willingness to travel to meet suppliers

Specific Requirements:

1) Look for cost saving opportunities by consolidating purchasing and putting in supply contracts or long term orders with call offs
2) Optimise supply chain to eliminate excessive costs
3) Manage suppliers in terms of visits, audits, high level communications (not chasing specific orders as such, but more about managing relationships)
4) Manage service contracts such as the electric, gas etc. and ensure we are on best terms and not subject to auto renewals etc.
5) Work within and optimise our purchasing quality procedure, assisting with internal audits to ensure we are following the correct processes.

Please note:
It is essential to be able to read engineering drawings to enable an understanding of the parts requirements and how they could be reworked to save costs etc so a background in an engineering company is essential. They have a very wide range of suppliers - approx. 500 - so some experience of working within this type of supply chain environment would also be advantageous
