Melbreck are working with a fantastic business and we have a great opportunity for a Project Manager. We have worked with this business in the past and have placed people in their business in various roles, so we can speak with authority on what a great business this is to work for, and how well they look after their people.

COMPANY OVERVIEW
The business design and deliver special purpose machinery for the food and packaging industries across the UK. This is a smaller team in the UK, but part of a bigger group with a factory in Europe. Worldwide they have over 200 employees, however in the UK they are a smaller (but rapidly growing), close-knit team. This role would be based in their design office.
This business has a very good level of staff retention and they all pull in the same direction, working well as a team. The work is challenging, but they have a comfortable and enjoyable working environment, and look after their team members very well.
Over the past few years the business as got busier and busier and increasingly successful – they are very profitable and have massively increased their output.
The business is a good fit for people who are hard-working, innovative and who can work under their own initiative. People get involved in other areas of the business when necessary and if they see something that needs doing they get it done to help.

THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced Project Manager.
The projects involved designing, delivering and modifying special purpose machinery to clients, mainly in the food and packaging industries.
The person in the role will take charge of and manage projects right from the sale points, through to final changes, delivery, installation and commissioning, utilizing a team of design engineers, service engineers and installation engineers as necessary. There will also be some pre-sales involvement for the Project Manager, getting sales drawings produced by the team and understanding client requirements and specifications.
The role will involve liaising with clients (including client visits where needed), contractors and the factory in Europe.
The role will also need someone with good health & safety knowledge. The business has health & safety aspects and requirements to their work that they need to legally satisfy on their projects, including regulations, CE marking, putting manuals together for equipment.
The company use MS Project for Gantt charts, and there is a lot of design involvement in projects, so ability or experience with 3D CAD would be useful (they use Inventor but experience of that is not essential).
The role will involve managing workload and keeping up to date with the progress with design engineers, installation engineers, contractors and clients and will also need someone who can satisfy and manage client expectations, being strong where needed in front of clients and suppliers but also keeping up a good relationship with them.
The company projects vary in value from £150K up to £3 million +. The life cycle of projects does vary depending upon their size. Their factory is on about a 20-25 week lead time, so they are usually between 4 and 12 months – although some take longer than this.

EXPERIENCE NEEDED IN THE ROLE
- Strong project management experience
- Experience within special purpose machinery / handling systems / process machinery or equipment, ideally within food or packaging industries or similar
- Experience with fabrications, sheet metal and stainless steel for hygienic environments/projects
- Health & Safety knowledge and experience – particularly considering regulations, legal requirement and experience of CE marking
- Experience of managing and working with contractors
- Good client facing experience, managing client expectations and understanding requirements
- MS Project – Gantt charts etc.
- A background in design and 3D CAD ability would be useful – in Inventor or other 3D packages
- The ability to work under your own initiative and manage workload of yourself and others involved in projects
- Experience of working within small, cross-functional teams would be useful
