Head of Digital
INFLUENCE: Generating and leveraging evidence. As a global network we are well positioned to address the lack of robust evidence on youth entrepreneurship. We work with members to undertake research on priority themes and use the learnings to drive change in policy and practice. For example, we are currently conducting longitudinal research on the impact of mentoring with the University of Middlesex. The findings will be shared in national and international forums.Building digital capabilities lies at the heart of our strategy. Young people need the digital skills and mindset to thrive in the new economy, whether they enter employment or start their own business. Many young people will do both. YBI’s members need to have the digital knowledge and skills to prepare young people for a changing world of work and to maximise the opportunity of digital to reach more young people with their services. The YBI Network supports the building of these capabilities at member and young entrepreneur level and is constantly seeking to innovate new digital products and services so that we can serve our membership better. Key Responsibilities This is an exciting opportunity for a Head of Digital or similarly experienced professional to work for a dynamic, international charity. The successful candidate will have the drive, ambition and vision to help YBI deliver its strategic goals. Key objectives for this post-holder are: 1.Support the team to digitise our suite of products and services and lead on the development of new, sector-defining digital products that respond to member and young entrepreneur’s needs2.Build a culture of innovation and digital practices that drives transformative change across the YBI network3.Lead on strategic initiatives that build the network’s digital capabilities4.Support YBI’s members with the development of digital products that have the potential to scale and lead on digital project management within the Network Team 5.Contribute to YBI’s vision for youth entrepreneurship in the digital age and the development of a digital strategy that responds to the challenge and opportunities of the changing world
1. Strategy & Planning·Develop a digital roadmap for YBI that will enable the maximising of digital opportunities for young entrepreneurs and YBI’s members globally and increasing the effectiveness and reach of our work.·Collaborate with organisational leads and external consultants to design and deliver the digital roadmap.·Advise on and advocate for digital solutions and approaches across the organisation. ·Communicate the network’s digital strategy to stakeholders at all levels, including staff, senior management, members, and partners.·Own the architectural vision and advise on key technology decisions, ensuring core operational stability whilst at the same time enabling the network to respond to changing demands and opportunities.·Work with the Fundraising Team to identify suitable partners that will enhance the network’s digital product and service portfolio and ensure delivery of digital products in line with donor funding agreements·Oversee management of risks, obstacles and technical hurdles. Advise, or seek advice, on Intellectual Property and legal considerations related to scaling innovations co-developed with members and partners.
2. Culture & Skills·Support the creation of a digitally-literate Network Team and organisational culture. ·Lead the development of Digital Product Management best practice.·Collaborate with subject matter experts and members on the creation of a common innovation approach in the network, championing User Centred Design, and Agile methodology. ·Build an international community of digital trailblazers and diffuse knowledge on digital precedents, innovation and maturity.·Define a digital maturity framework that supports the network’s ambition to scale digital innovation to YE’s and the sector.
3. Digital Delivery·Lead on YBI’s ‘Sky’s The Limit’ Global Expansion project, and other flagship digital projects, ensuring effective governance, stakeholder management and project management, including budget and resource allocation. Oversee the work of technical teams, consultants and secondees on the project.·Support programme managers with the development and delivery of regional/global digital transformation programmes.·Define and monitor digital product metrics that target product performance against the organisational strategy and network / member / YE outcomes. ·Support the team on key aspects of the product lifecycle including R&D initiatives, business case reviews for both new digital opportunities and in-life digital products and services, roadmap prioritisation, and advise on key technical and architectural decision-making.·Enable a cross-functional team of digital product managers, project managers and technical staff to deliver on their product strategies. Build expertise and good practice in digital product management and delivery across the team and wider organisation. ·Provide oversight of outsourced supplier relationships. ·Manage one or more digital products. Where relevant, work with other teams to develop the skills of those with direct responsibility for the purpose and outcome of digital products to become digital product managers.·Lead on the implementation of Agile development methodology across digital products, and own metrics to monitor and target performance of digital products.·Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current and emerging technologies, industry trends, standards and software development best practices.
5. Leadership & Management·Enable and motivate others in the network team to adopt digital behaviours and provide appropriate training and mentoring to colleagues and network members as needed.·Track and control the functional budget, and track and report key operational performance metrics, continuously improve based on progress.·Undertake people and performance management of any line reports, secondees and interns, motivate them to achieve, provide appropriate coaching and mentoring while challenging them to grow and develop in their roles. Conduct staff appraisals and ensure YBI’s People policy is upheld at all times.
