Working within the design department, the Tooling Design Engineer focusses on designing thermoforming tools. The role also works on producing complete tooling drawings for both parts and assemblies using the latest 3D modelling software from Solid works to allow the tooling facility to follow the drawings to manufacture their in-house tooling for thermoformed food packaging.

The role will be using Delcam Powermill to programme the completed components to allow them to be machined on one of the 3 & 5 Axis CNCs within the CDI Tool room facility.


Design and model thermoforming tools using Solid Works 3d Software
Create engineering drawings to enable tooling manufacture using Solid Works
Program various components of the tool using Delcam Powermill Software
Create BOM and order raw materials to produce the components
Generate tool layout documents to assist production planning of tooling
Check daily design requirements, liaise with design team/production colleagues
Provide feedback on projects to enable live status updates
Attend Tool Pack meetings to understand tool build requirements as and when required
Attend daily Genesis meetings to give input on new developments coming through the CDI
Liaise with external suppliers to identify and order consumables within the CDI department
Update activities from the shop floor in time for 9.00am daily reviews
Ensure all documentation in department is processed as to standard design instructions.
Update Production repair status on live projects on a weekly basis to the manufacturing site
Liaise with external sub-contractors should the need arise to send work externally
Communicate with sales team on projects giving updates when required
Link in with technical design to understand the customer needs before beginning the tool design
Health and safety actions regarding the safety of yourself and those around you


HNC or equivalent engineering / qualifications would be desirable
Engineering apprenticeship would be desirable

Minimum essential experience

Must be fully competent in generating engineering drawings and models from Solid Works
Experience in using 3D machining packages ideally Delcam but others will be considered
Fully competent with Microsoft office

Additional desirable experience
Multi-skilled design engineering manufacturing background
Knowledge of the thermoforming process
Knowledge of CNC 3 and 5 axis
