Assistant Accountant - Truro (with parking!) - Circa: £22,000
If your current role is likely to lead you to a dead end where training and progression are concerned, you should read on. We recognise that ambitious upcoming accountants will need to contemplate their job choices carefully if they want to avoid the all-to-common short road to nowhere. Our two cents worth:
1) Seek an interesting and entrepreneurial employer with considerable aspirations for growth. You won't want to work for an organisation that is going backwards if you're hoping to move forwards.
2) Look for a Head of Finance with considerable experience, energy and enthusiasm. Somebody who has a passion for financial perfection, implementing novel new processes and developing a brilliant accounts function - not a dead-end backroom function.
If you're an experienced Finance Assistant, Assistant Accountant or junior Management Accountant and the setting above has twigged your interest, you've stumbled upon a great opportunity.
The role is heavily geared towards the preparation of management accounts (the best bits), so if you've got experience in preparing these then great. If you don't, but you want to, then don't be put off. It's still a well-rounded role though. You'll be involved in all areas of the finance function including payroll, bank recs etc. etc. Essentially everything you'll need to get better and move your career in a positive direction.
AAT qualified? Good. Qualified by experience? No problem. We're not too bothered by the status of your qualification (or lack of), but you'll definitely need a good couple of years of general accounts experience. You'll need to be IT savvy, enjoy working within an energetic team, and genuinely want to be better than average at your job.
