The Role

At NFU Mutual we will always look for ways to settle our customers’ claims, rather than excuses not to. This makes working in claims altogether more satisfying and more rewarding. It means less no, more yes. Managing and processing motor and personal claims, you’ll listen closely to the customer and what they need – reassuring them and giving them peace of mind at what can be a stressful time.

As well as the customer, you’ll talk to NFU Mutual Agents and relevant third parties to settle claims quickly and efficiently. You’ll decide on legal liability and policy liability issues and make sure that we’re complying with all regulatory and internal systems controls. You’ll have more freedom to make decisions and manage claims in the way that you think is best. You’ll also be able to sign-off on bigger claims too. From the moment you pick up the phone, you’ll make customers feel at ease, giving them the time, care and attention they deserve.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Claims Handler to join our Motor team based in the Bristol Regional Office.

Job Specification

The accountabilities for the role include:

  • The provision of a first class customer service
  • Making decisions on policy liability and initiating and coordinating investigations onto legal liability
  • Compliance with all regulatory and internal systems controls
  • The recording and reporting of appropriate workflow data to ensure accurate MI
  • Liaison with other Regional Staff, Agents, and Service Providers
  • Making payments within laid down guidelines
  • Working within Department procedure and practice and making suggestions for improvement
  • Meeting deadlines in line with customers service levels, litigation requirements and FCA guidelines.
  • Person Specification

    The successful person will possess:

  • A commitment to the importance of good customer care.
  • First class written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to analyse, evaluate and make logical decisions.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • The ability to meet challenging deadlines and department quality and service standards.
  • Previous motor claims experience is essential
  • Qualifications/Other

    Ideally applicants should have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English Language. Progress towards ACII qualification would be an advantage.
