The Royal College of General Practitioners is the largest membership organisation solely for GPs in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1952, it has over 52,000 members who are committed to improving patient care, developing their own skills and promoting general practice as a discipline. General practice is the largest branch of the medical profession. It provides some 1 million consultations for patients in the UK every working day and deals with 86% of the health problems experienced by the UK population.

The Thames Valley Faculty requires an Administrator to manage the day to day core activities of a local office including provision of administrative support to the Faculty Board who seek to develop and deliver local initiatives to members and implement / facilitate national activities delivered at local level. This will include travel within the Thames Valley area to attend Board meetings, educational and social events.

Educated to 'A' level standard (or equivalent), you will have relevant experience in an administrative role and be competent in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Publisher, email, internet and have knowledge of Great Plains (or similar) financial software. You will have excellent organisational, time management and communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and make effective use of the College systems provided to support you in your duties. Experience of providing committee administration and minute-taking is desirable.

A flexible approach to working hours is necessary as attendance at some evening meetings will be required. Knowledge of the health service would be an advantage.

In this varied and busy post you will provide a high standard of administrative support to the Faculty Board, all of whom are volunteers. Duties will include organising and attending meetings, maintaining regular contact with Faculty Officers, working with the Events Administrator to deliver educational courses and conferences, and being responsible for Faculty finances, communications and database management. You will be required to be a self starter, manage your own time and priorities whilst under the supervision of the Regional Engagement Manager - London and South East England.
