Fitness to Practise Directorate
Salary £52,967 - £57,641 per annum plus benefits (based on experience)
The Nursing and Midwifery Council regulates nurses and midwives in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland setting standards of education, training, conduct and performance so that nurses and midwives can deliver high quality healthcare throughout their careers.

As a senior lawyer, you will lead, direct and oversee the management of high profile fitness to practise referrals through the screening and investigation process. This will include assessing and identifying cases requiring immediate action in order to protect the public. Cases under your supervision will be the most high profile cases managed in the directorate, including cases with police involvement, cases arising from public inquiries and cases receiving national media coverage.
Our Senior Lawyers will take personal accountability for decisions, and providing legal advice on the most complex of our cases. Supporting our external stakeholders you will liaise on divergent interests, and act as a point of escalation for any complex issues.
Must hold legal qualification
Substantial experience working as a solicitor or barrister
Relevant casework experience, ideally in a professional regulatory setting.
Experience of providing legal advice on complex issues
Experience of working in a politically sensitive environment
Flexible to work location - although based in London, you may need to go to Belfast, Cardiff or Edinburgh for any hearings as required.
Must be able to meet tight & conflicting deadlines.
Experience of Analysing and reporting
Good Communicator - in writing and verbally.
Ability to work in a team & individually.
