The Role
We are looking for a maintenance supervisor to undertake general maintenance, emergency repairs,
security and portering. You will have experience of basic maintenance and repair work including
painting, decorating and gardening. You will supervise all external contractors and ensure cleaning is
delivered to a high standard. It is important you are comfortable working in a special educational
needs environment.

The School
This is a small and friendly independent special educational needs school for pupils aged 4-16 who have autism, additional learning difficulties and complex needs. The calm, friendly & happy atmosphere at Kestrel House is maintained through a holistic and therapeutic approach to each one of its pupils, via a knowledgeable team of specialists and experts in autism and associated conditions.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
- To respond effectively to all urgent maintenance and repair tasks as they arise.
- To undertake general repairs and maintenance around the site, inside and out, including plastering, basic joinery, decorating, repairs on furnishings and buildings, including woodwork, and gardening etc. to ensure a safe and well cared for environment is maintained.
- Supervise all external contractors and ensure cleaning is delivered to a high standard.
- Maintain security of the site i.e. opening and closing of the premises in line with agreed opening and closing procedures. Liaise with the alarm company as and when required.
- Be a named key holder for emergency call outs, liaising with the alarm company as required.
- Be a key member of emergency and fire marshal group undertaking training as and when
necessary.
- Undertake regular periodic checks including asbestos visual check, weekly fire alarm call point tests, water temperature tests, first aid box checks, emergency lighting tests, fire door checks, operation of fire exits, fire extinguisher tests, ladder checks, equipment condition checks.
- To ensure that all equipment and materials are used in accordance with Health & Safety
guidelines.
- To ensure that company tools and equipment are kept in good order and propose solutions
to repair any faulty tools or equipment to the appropriate manager. Place orders for and arrange deliveries for key materials.
- Perform basic maintenance on the school vehicles so that they are in good order and the
correct number of vehicles are available for use when required by the school.

Essential Skills and Competencies
- A full clean driving licence.
- Experience of basic housekeeping, repair work and upkeep of a large site.
- Ability to use basic tools and power tools.
- Ability to work under own initiative on occasion.
- Ability to use a PC including email, Word and Excel
- Understanding of the challenges of working in a special educational needs environment.
