About the role - SEN Teaching Assistant
You will assist the Year 4 class teacher in supporting children who have Special Educational Needs (SEN). The children will have a range of needs and need supporting 1:1 to ensure they have a fantastic learning environment. Within the school there are a number of sensory areas for SEN children to go to when they are feeling frustrated or emotional. You will use specific strategies and resources to help the child to cope with the challenges they face. This will include social stories, visual timetables, PECS/Makaton and specific intervention schemes. You do not need to have experience with all of these strategies as some foundation training is offered.
The role involves liaising with external agencies, other colleagues and parents/carers in order to ensure the child has accurate and necessary support. You will set individual learning targets for the child, in collaboration with the class teacher, and review these targets on a regular basis. This is a long term role (until July 2018) and is paid weekly, up to £300 per week.
Person Specification - SEN Teaching Assistant
You must have a recent degree at a classification of 2.1 or higher and some relevant experience working with children. Extensive experience in a similar role is NOT required, however previous experience working with young people in any capacity is essential. The role will be extremely rewarding for a graduate who has the passion and energy to support inclusive learning for children with Special Needs. Equally the role will offer some challenges, so it requires someone who is confident and resilient.
