The Examinations department is responsible for the delivery of our clients examinations, These examinations are recognised internationally for their fairness and high standards. They have evolved to reflect contemporary best educational and assessment practice and developments in anaesthesia, intensive care and pain medicine.

The department are collectively responsible for the provision of examination processes, regulations and policies and support the examiner boards, the examinations candidates and college fellows and members in all areas of examinations management, administration and statistical analysis.

The Examinations department oversee 18 separate examinations per year, some of which run up to five days at a time. Whilst each of the eight members of the department have their own areas of responsibility and expertise, the ability to work as part of a team to achieve a common aim is key to ensuring the examinations are delivered effectively and to a high standard.

The successful candidate will be required to assist and work closely with the Exams Coordinator, assisting in creating statistical reports and standard setting formulas for each exam, in order to analyse and produce examination outcomes, and identify trends in candidate performance. Much of the analysis will be carried out using excel spreadsheets and therefore the successful applicant will need to prove their competence in the use of excel and demonstrate an experience in handling or the ability to handle large amounts of data. Much of this work will be specific to medical assessments and we would expect any successful applicant to require further training in creating formula, charts and running analysis to meet our own requirements

The College and the Faculties exams have around 200 visitors per year mainly from consultants who have an interest in education or a wish to become an examiner. The role holder will be required to manage visitor application and attendance following a given criteria. Additionally, the role holder will liaise with the events team, in the provision of a multiple choice question (MCQ) examination for the safe sudation for non-anaesthetists courses.

The ideal candidate will use their highly developed organisational and administrative skills to efficiently complete a variety of tasks across all examination processes to ensure the smooth and effective running of exams and will be called upon to set up, invigilate and provide a wide variety of general operational and administrative support to the examinations. They will be joining a friendly team who deliver to the highest standards through their conscientious and cooperative approach to work and the successful applicant will need to be a highly motivated and a flexible team player to thrive in this dynamic environment.

The successful Applicant will have:

  • previous administration experience in higher education
  • highly numerate with a keen eye for detail
  • good skills in written English, ability to draft reports and correspondence in a clear way
  • high level of experience in Microsoft office, advance knowledge of Excel (desirable but further training can be provided)
  • ability to quickly gain a firm understanding of new software packages and databases
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • ability to form good working relationships at all levels
  • ability to work methodically and accurately when under pressure
  • a commitment to maintaining high customer care standards and organisational values

Desirable:

  • experience of handling large amounts of data
  • possesses motivation to apply mathematical and statistical formula
  • knowledge of UK Postgraduate Medical Education
  • previous experience in the use of SPSS (training can be provided)
