Lead Infrastructure Engineer

The Lead Infrastructure Engineer:

As per the Senior Infrastructure Engineer, plus;

  • Leads and directs infrastructure specialists teams in building, managing, supporting and maintaining
  • infrastructure solutions
  • infrastructure facilities such as data centres and equipment/communications rooms
  • develops the strategic and tactical roadmaps for technologies and services in area of responsibility ensuring they are future proofed and the organisation derives maximum value from investment in technologies
  • owns the operational relationships with suppliers ensuring services and products are delivered aligned to industry best practice, regulatory and contractual requirements.

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Unified Communications) you will provide engineering capability to design, build and operate infrastructure services and solutions for the DWP

General Responsibilities

Key delivery accountabilities include:

• lead the teams ensuring all the capabilities, processes and skills are optimised to ensure that all services resident in DWP or 3rd party facilities, arebuilt, configured, maintained and operated to best practise standards aligned to organisation and service requirements, IT and Department strategy and policyand KPIs

• develops fit for purpose Management Information Reporting for areas of responsibility according to DWP and/or industry best practise standards in support of service, financial management and decision making e.g. performance, trends and capacity reporting

• develop, agree and manage budgets and ownership of financial performance for own area of responsibility ensuring all expenditure is appropriately planned, authorised and progressed

• manage projects and programmes in own area of accountability throughout lifecycle aligned to Departmental or industry best practise standards

• act as Major Incident manager and escalation point for all service related issues in area.

• negotiations and contracts are aligned to best practise, IT and infrastructure strategy with reference to own area of responsibility

• infrastructure projects ensuring definition and delivery of requisite non-functional requirements

• consistent levels of capability available as required by the organisation

• continuous personal development progressed in line with organisation requirements

• own risk register for technical area, ensuring that appropriate management and mitigation plans and actions are implemented.

Essential Skills

  • ITIL Master/Expert with experience in information technology strategy, planning and implementation including technical architecture design and technology assessment
  • Extensive experience of leading teams/departments in the design, implementation, administration and support of infrastructure solutions and services
  • Extensive experience of Strategic supplier management, contract negotiation and performance management
  • Extensive experience of complex multiple discipline technical troubleshooting and problem analysis and a track record of management of infrastructure programmes and projects utilising project methodologies such as Agile, PRINCE2Service reporting – production and presentation of management information and reports, dashboards etc.
  • Experience in conducting risk and compliance assessment.
  • To be successful in the role you will be an expert in the following:
  • Extensive experience in Microsoft Unified Communications, including Skype for Business engineering and consultancy;
  • Expert level experience and successful track record of design, build and operations of Microsoft Unified Communications services in large scale organisations;
  • Expert level experience of the products, services and techniques used to design, build, and operate Cloud and On Premise Microsoft Skype for Business Services;
  • Expert level experience of the design, build, and operate of Lync 2010, Lync 2013, Enterprise Voice and Online services for Lync2013, Skype for Business (SfB) Server 2015, SfB Online (O365), SfB 2016 client, SfB PSTN, PSTN Conferencing, Cloud PBX
  • Expert level experience in the design, deployment and operations of Office and Office 365 mobile applications for Skype for Business
  • Significant experience in product management, developing standard/repeated services, with successful track record gained working for service-providers
  • Significant experience in configuration & maintenance of Microsoft Skype for Business Cloud Services – Tenant management, activating & configuring new features, applying Data Loss Prevention/Rights Management policies
  • Significant ‘hands on’ experience within an agile delivery environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SurfaceHub technology and relevant app capability and cloud and hosted SaaS solutions
  • Knowledge of design and engineering techniques applied to MS Evergreen upgrades
  • Ability to lead teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex problems across the Unified Communications technology domain
  • Ability to effectively communicate at different levels, across support and engineering, business users, architecture and 3rd party suppliers
  • Experience of team / agile leadership and the ability to provide thought leadership and vision for the Unified Communications Product domain
  • Hands on experience of implementation and support of Polycom Group Series (700, 500, 310) solutions integrated directly with Skype for Business
  • Current Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) (including the following modules)
  • Core Solutions of Microsoft Skype for Business 2015
  • Deploying Enterprise Voice with Skype for Business 2015
  • Polycom Certified Videoconferencing Engineer (PCVE)
