My client, a multi-national retailer, is seeking a Corporate Insurance & Risk Manager to join the Financial Controller in a new role which is very operationally focussed with specific emphasis on managing the Group's global insurance programme and co-ordination of robust Business Continuity Planning appropriate to each territory. This is a new position and the successful candidate will be expected to make a strong impression.


The core aspects of the role include ownership of the following:

• Ownership of Group insurance policies
• Review of non Group policies placed locally to ensure cover at Group standards and risk appropriately managed
• Liaison with insurance brokers
• Ownership of claims processes including management of 2 assistants
• Review existing ad-hoc BCP plans which then need pulling together into a professional and comprehensive set of Group plans

Within these aspects typical work activities may involve:

• Reviewing existing insurances for adequacy / appropriateness of cover levels
• Communication with insurers to ensure covers at appropriate levels
• Creation of Group insurance register identifying uncovered risk / exposure
• Commercially based approach to recommending new covers or changes to cover levels
• Work with internal teams across the business to minimise risk and reduce claims
• Management of largest claims through to satisfactory conclusion

The role will have considerable exposure to the management across all the Group's businesses and by definition will work across all levels.


  • The right person should have previous experience of the insurances of a multi site International Business
  • Previous experience of producing / maintaining Business Continuity Plans a definite advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of Commercial (Stock, Figures) and Liability (public & employee) Insurance is a prerequisite.
