The Risk function is the Group's central resource for the co-ordination of risk management activity in the Group and for the analysis of challenge and reporting of key risk areas. This role will assist in putting in place measures, as identified by the Head of Underwriting Risk and Underwriting Risk Manager, to ensure the group are able to monitor their key underwriting risks.

The role sits within the Underwriting Risk team and requires a close working relationship with other parts of that department as well as other parts of the group. A large part of the role will involve development of reporting solutions but importantly the job holder should be keen to learn about the entire underwriting spectrum and therefore help ensure that the team can quantify and mitigate underwriting risk across the group. The role would suit a keen individual, interested in using new technology to produce innovative reporting. In time the job holder would then be able to use this reporting framework to analyse and identify areas of concern from underwriting across the group.

Develop reporting solutions to enable monitoring of Underwriting Risk. This will involve working with the technology dept.to develop and maintain reporting capabilities but also to create prototype tools and analyses that identify areas of concern across the group.

Assist in creating reporting to ensure transparency of the underwriting risk data.

Help develop processes to validate the reinsurance program.

The team has responsibility for setting the Realistic Disaster Scenarios to be reported across the Group, validating the results and reporting to the Boards. These should include scenarios for all major classes of business.

The team has to lead the analysis of underwriting risk, including an independent review of clashing exposures. Assist in the review of each major class of business to identify major risks to profitability and potentially set scenarios to test these.

Key Competencies

Some knowledge of the insurance markets and specifically the Lloyds/London marketplace would be useful.

Strong technical and analytical capability

Excellent Excel, Access and SQL skills
