Children's Play Therapist within a Refuge required for a Women's organisation.

Role: Children's Play Therapist

Based: North West / North East London

Hourly rate: £14 - £16 an hour

Salary: 26k - 30k dependent on experience

Hours: Full time 9 - 5 Monday - Friday (flexible earlies and lates)

Essential: Current enhanced DBS
HCPC, BACP, UKCP - one of the relevant qualifications


*Assess and then support in weekly, one to one therapeutic sessions children - work with each child to be reviewed termly.
*Conduct individual key work and run groups for children to enable them to express their feelings and manage their emotions towards others, including their mothers
*Identify if specialist therapeutic intervention is needed and refer to the appropriate agency.
*To maintain clear, up to date written records and collect appropriate evaluation data in accordance with policy and procedures. To submit quarterly reports and statistics
*Support mothers/carers ( service users) using services in understanding the impact of abuse on their children
*Coordinate and deliver a programme of outings and holiday play-schemes.
*Work with children using a range of multi-cultural, physical, creative, imaginative and social play activities within a therapeutic framework.
*Research and use evidence-based interventions to help children understand their experience of abuse and reduce self-blame
*Conduct thorough assessments and support planning for children receiving individual support, including developing and refining appropriate documentation
*Provide advocacy and liaison with relevant external agencies, schools and statutory bodies , including helping children to access schools and providing schools with advice and support
*Raise awareness of the children's service and encourage clients and their children to become involved in activities provided
*Order, maintain and care for toys and equipment
*Provide anti-racist, anti-sexist, non-violent toys and equipment which meet the needs of individual children and comply with their ethos of encouraging children to foster positive images of themselves and each other
*To stay up to date with Child Safeguarding training and legislation.
*To comply with and work within policies and procedures, including Children's Policy, Confidentiality, Equal Opportunities, and Health and Safety
*Attend to and record accidents or incidents in the Accident or Incident books and inform other workers of any incidents involving children and/or mother/carers
*To keep abreast of the evidence based and recent research regarding working with children affected by domestic violence
*Work flexible hours as necessary, including some weekends and evenings
*To carry out other duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Chief Executive or your line manager.
