WorldRemit - if the media's to be believed, we're the FinTech start-up taking the world by storm - scooping-up awards and more than $140m in funding. Ok... all that is true. But we're so much more. WorldRemit is changing the way people send money to family and friends. We're leading an online revolution and laying to rest old-fashioned money transfers. We’re now looking for a Big Data Engineer to come in and help us build out a Big Data ecosystem...from scratch :-)

What are we looking for? We are on a journey to make ourselves much more data-driven, and for that purpose we are looking for extremely talented people who are passionate about data, business, and passionate about influencing the business and our customers through the data! Some of the things you'll be doing: ? Build a top-notch Big Data platform, pretty much from scratch (which is a very unique opportunity!) ? Work very closely with our engineering teams and product managers to influence the way we generate, capture and transform our data ? Work very closely with our BI teams and business teams, to transform their ideas into reality in the form of rich data products and data infrastructure ? Research and evaluate different technologies via intensive reading, comparison/assessment, reaching out to the community and prototyping / proof-of-concept ? Work on some of the most cutting-edge technologies out there, innovate, and watch a small startup company adopting it’s data and absorbing the practice of data science

What do we want to see in you? ? Passion for data! ? Fluency in SQL and Python. ? Good understanding of Java. Ability to understand and write code in Scala would be a great advantage. ? Deep understanding of Big Data technology, proven experience with Hadoop and experience working on massive production databases / Hadoop Clusters ? Deep understanding of the Hadoop Architecture and Eco-system, and related technologies (Spark, Hive, Pig, Presto, Kafka, etc.) ? Great understanding of system architecture concepts, integrations, REST APIs and micro-services ? Strong understanding of the core concepts and theories: Databases, Programming, Algorithms / Data structures, Networking and Operating Systems ? Strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills ? Great people skills and communication skills ? Strong self-study and research skills ? Experience working in Agile environment ? Continuously staying on top of technology and trends ? Ability and willingness to understand the theory and technicalities required and dealt with by other roles.
