Associate Data Scientist
Our clients team
Our client has more data than any other business in the UK about the used vehicle market. The Data Solutions team mission is to mobilise that data to provide actionable insight to their clients and their people, and as they become the authoritative source of vehicle market insight, transform the way the world interacts with cars.
They are a start-up with the backing of a major corporation. They move fast. They break things. They develop hacks of hacks of hacks to deliver results quickly, in parallel to developing robust, scalable solutions. But you don’t have to worry about the business being unable to secure its next round of funding. Nor will the awesome work you do be buried within the bowels of a massive organisation, unclear as to whether it is used (or valued) by anyone. Your work will be used by major car manufacturers, dealer groups, and leasing companies – and your colleagues.
They are growing quickly, and expect to have about 50 people on the team by the end of 2017. They are deploying cutting edge and best-of-breed technology, using Tableau for data visualisation, and a cloud-based Hadoop stack to take advantage of the latest big data innovations. Their data science stack is under assembly and you will help build it.
They are looking for an Associate (Junior) Data Scientist who can help the data science team introduce predictive analytics into the business and the UK automotive industry more generally. With the support of a large organisation and the flexibility of a small, self-contained, agile team, this is a great opportunity to step up. You need to be a self-starter who can learn from colleagues as well as independently, and will crack on with the work without needing micro-management.
This is an ideal position for a Data Analyst with several years’ experience, who has already started to step in to the world of data science. Perhaps you are stuck in a loop producing Excel reports without knowing if anybody reads them. Or maybe you deliver dense written reports for decision-makers or academic audiences, but hanker for greater impact through providing accurate predictions and recommendations that will be used right away. You will have enjoyed communicating with stakeholders and now seek an opportunity to serve them with the support required to deliver: the right data, the best technology, and a collaborative team.
You need not be an expert in predictive analytics, but must have established the statistical knowledge necessary to explain and implement common models/algorithms for binary and continuous outcome variables (at minimum). As part of the interview process for this role, we will require a sample of code you have written to show you have begun acquiring this knowledge.
Please see the attached Job Description for further details of the responsibilities of the role, and what they expect from applicants. Location preference is London, although for the right candidate this can be flexible. The wider Data Solutions team also has members in Leeds, Bristol, Adlington. You’ll enjoy the following benefits:
