    Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Company require an IT Support Apprentice to work as a 1st line support engineer on their helpdesk.

    Key technical skills are Microsoft Windows client (XP, Windows 7) and a good understanding of the desktop environment. An interest in Microsoft Server technology would be an advantage and an MCSE, CompTIA or other IT qualifications would be of benefit.

    This role will initially be involved in the support of their internal systems and those of their customers. 

    Quickly assimilating new technologies, being able to apply what is learnt and showing a genuine enthusiasm for the technology are critical to this position’s success. 

    As a Microsoft IT apprentice you will be required to: 

  • Learn how to Support internal systems, including Active Directory and Exchange.
  • Become a valued part of the IT Support team.
  • Learn how to provide technical support to marketing channels and activities.
  • Assist in customer project and support activities as skills allow.
  • You will gain on the job experience and can utilize the skills you have gained over the duration of your apprenticeship.
  • You will help the existing staff, and the other sub-contractors we partner with, to deliver the IT Support services to our clients.
  • Learning how to handle the telephone support calls – as well as incoming Helpdesk emails. They will manage the Helpdesk system, ensuring all calls are handled within the agreed SLA.
  • You will be working on resolving the first line support where capable, and work with more experienced staff to help resolve more complex issues.
  • Our clients use (predominantly) Microsoft operating systems and applications, so a good understanding of these would be very useful.
  • Other responsibilities will include updating company systems.
  •  The main responsibilities will include dealing with a varied level of users and their requests either over the phone or face-to-face. It is the role of the helpdesk consultant to record information of resolved cases on the helpdesk system, working with the IT Operations team with access to the 2nd line support consultants and reporting to the Helpdesk Manager. Main activities will include giving IT support to clients via telephone, email and internet, maintaining a clear line of communication and visibility of workload, working with the IT Operations team to take on issues and escalate to other team members as necessary, demonstrating the ability to work off their own caseload, whilst ensuring that they are aware of what their colleagues are doing and working as a team.

    Desirable Skills:

  • You should have GCSE Maths & English at C or above and 3 or 4 other subjects at least. You will have enjoyed school, and you’ll be ready for a new learning environment in the world of work.
  • Any interest in one or some of the following is important; trouble shooting, computer repairs, computer hardware, Microsoft Programs.
  • You will need a good eye for detail with a view to improving results daily
  • You should have strong communication skills (both written and verbal), good analytical skills, team working skills, good workload management and a solid understanding of basic IT principles
  • Essential skills include 1st line helpdesk support in a Windows environment (general desktop support, printer/scanner/copier troubleshooting, etc.), strong customer service skills, a positive attitude and clear communication
  • Microsoft MCSE/MCP qualifications and other national qualifications such as CompTIA, ECDL or NVQ would be advantageous

    Training to be Provided

    You will be enrolled on to the award winning Microsoft Partner Apprenticeship Programme. You will work towards gaining the Microsoft certifications, MTA Server Fundamentals, MTA Network Fundamentals and a City and Guilds Level 3 ICT Diploma. You will also work towards gaining an MCP in Windows Server 2012. This apprenticeship is delivered remotely via a live virtual classroom using the very latest Microsoft technologies. These qualifications are globally recognized industry certifications and form the significant building block of IT knowledge for anybody looking to start a career in IT.
