Duties and Responsibilities

The Company require a pro-active IT Technician with an aptitude for communication, to act as the first point of contact in assisting and providing frontline support for staff through the use of telephone, email and a web based helpdesk.

Quickly assimilating new technologies, being able to apply what is learnt and showing a genuine enthusiasm for the technology are critical to this position’s success.

As a Microsoft IT Apprentice you will be required to:

ØBecome a valued part of the IT Support team

ØLog/process all helpdesk calls in a timely manner and wherever possible closing helpdesk calls directly

ØIdentify and troubleshoot IT incidents and faults and perform 1st line diagnostics

ØMonitor call queues and chase as required, updating staff with fault progress and timescales

ØSupport PCs (both desktops and laptops), printers, telephones and other systems as required

ØBuild of PC to predefined standard (from scratch or image) and installation of ad hoc software as required

ØMaintain awareness of the company’s IT Infrastructure

ØMaintain a high level of physical and data security

ØComply with company health & safety policies to include safe working practices

ØBe responsible for complying with the current legislation, codes of practice and the company’s procedures for data protection and virus protection

ØMaintain awareness of staffing levels, virus alerts, potential threats/problems that will affect the company’s system and act accordingly in the absence of senior staff

ØUndertake any other duties and projects specified by the IT management that may arise from time to time

ØEscalate faults through to 2nd or 3rd line including logging of faults to 3rd parties and chasing relevant technical teams

ØAmend/manage users’ accounts on various systems including (but not limited to) Active Directory, ADP, Manufacture systems

ØManage hosted email accounts (creation, deletion, modifications and troubleshooting, etc.)

ØManage existing backup rotation policies

ØBe responsible for the creation and setup of all new starters in accordance with the set tasks before the user starts

ØBe responsible for the termination of accounts in a timely manner to ensure that employees have left cn no longer access the systems.

Desirable Skills

ØYou should have GCSE Maths & English at C or above and 3 or 4 other subjects at least. You will have enjoyed school, and you’ll be ready for a new learning environment in the world of work

ØYou should be able to follow set procedures, be able to learn new tasks and information, be able to work in a fast paced and busy environment, be self-motivated and able to work without supervision, have effective time management, excellent written and verbal communication skills and be confident in speaking to internal staff and external support

ØA full driving licence is preferable

Future Progression

Whilst there is no guarantee of a role upon completion of the apprenticeship, if a candidate does secure a position then there will be an opportunity to work with Windows Server 2008 R2/2012 R2, HyperV Virtualised Environment, learn to program Cisco switches and work within a site that has multiple VLANs. There will be project work required and as the business expands, opportunity to learn and be involved with what is required when setting up new sites.

The apprentice would need to have acquired a full driving licence by the time they complete the apprenticeship if they succeed in securing a permanent role.

Training to be Provided

You will be enrolled on to the award winning Microsoft Partner Apprenticeship Programme. You will work towards gaining the Microsoft certifications, MTA Server Fundamentals, MTA Network Fundamentals and a City and Guilds Level 3 ICT Diploma. You will also work towards gaining an MCP in Windows Server 2012. This apprenticeship is delivered remotely via a live virtual classroom using the very latest Microsoft technologies. These qualifications are globally recognized industry certifications and form the significant building block of IT knowledge for anybody looking to start a career in IT.
