Electronics Engineer

Given our ambitious and exciting growth plans for the future we are looking for an experienced and dynamic Electronics Engineer to join our manufacturing systems team in Vehicle Assembly.

The role:

The London Taxi Company is developing a new range extended electric hybrid Taxi which will be built in a brand new manufacturing facility at Antsy. The Electronics Engineer will work with the vehicle systems team supporting various project activities throughout all stages of the product cycle. Ultimately the role will support Electronics, Electrical and Systems Engineering (EESE) activities during vehicle assembly process.

Role Dimensions:

Electronics Engineer will be expected to...

- Provide first hand support in the development and execution of all EESE practices

- Lead by example, working within own functional area as well as cross functionally

- Support and assist the Manufacturing Engineering team to drive improvement, in the business areas of Project Management, Safety, Quality, Cost Management, People Development and Product Delivery and Vehicle Production.

- Support and assist the Manufacturing Engineering Team in scoping, specifying and delivering best operational practices in alignment with brand expectations

Principal Accountabilities:


- Check the manufacturing feasibility of electrical and electronics systems during concepts through to implementing into production

- Support robust introduction of electrical and electronics systems

- Develop End of line (EOL) and sub-assembly test processes for all vehicle lines for EESE components

- Contribute to the strategic planning of VCATS (vehicle configuration & test system) hardware and software systems

- Manage introduction of new part numbers (hardware and software) resulting from engineering change and model year actions

- Provide hands-on, track side support during launch phases and series production

- Review end of line Right First Time fails and develop counter measure

- For process and vehicle faults advise production rectifiers and support engineering actions as appropriate

- Work closely with peer group to ensure all operational targets are achieved

- Role model the company values and lead by example

- Ensure a safe working environment is set and maintained

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present ideas and information clearly at all levels

- Delivery of manufacturing PQVC (People, Quality, Velocity, Cost) objectives

- Any other duties as required to support business needs


- Support the manufacturing engineering functional team and wider business to ensure all quality targets are correctly specified and achieved

- Support the manufacturing engineering team in problem solving initiatives

- Support the manufacturing engineering team in the implementation of customer containment actions

- Support the manufacturing engineering team with continuous improvement initiatives

- Support the Product Design Engineering team in identifying resolutions for product related issues during the digital and prototype development phases, to protect the product in the field and enhance brand strength


- Support the manufacturing engineering team with the development of departmental budgets as contributor to overall program business cases

- Assist with planning for the smooth integration of facilities, equipment and product.

- Support the wider business functions with the delivery of all program aspects from inception to series production and beyond

- Assist with the analysis and collation of program end reports on all lessons learned

- Assist with the delivery of all MDP objectives ensuring all project gateway milestones are achieved

- Identify and report on program risk items ensuring corrective actions are in place preventing program delay

- Support the Manufacturing Engineering Team in the generation of timing plans that support full program delivery activities

Continuous Improvement and Cost Control:

- Assist the control of cost drivers for the manufacturing engineering team

- Initiate cost control and cost improvement activities (consumables, defect reduction)

- Assist in continuous Improvement to routinely line balance and improve efficiency

- Support the Manufacturing Engineering Manager in the achievement of the departmental budget

Health and Safety:

- Support the manufacturing engineering team and wider business functions to ensure safe working practices are implemented and upheld

- Support the manufacturing engineering team and wider business functions to ensure all staff maintain and use appropriate PPE

- Support in the investigation of near misses and accidents

- Support the manufacturing engineering team and wider business functions in ensuring cost effective productive maintenance schedules are identified and adhered to


- Operational new product introduction support and liaison with Quality Engineering, Supplier Quality Assurance, Advance Manufacturing engineering and production team

- Work in a collaborative relationship with Engineering and Development organisation throughout all the planning phases to ensure the products are brought to market on time, on budget at the required quality and volume ramp levels

- Carry out any other PQVC tasks required by business needs

Personal Specification:

- Flexible, enthusiastic and self-motivated with good communication skills

- A higher level qualification, such as Degree/HND, in a relevant engineering discipline and 3+ years engineering experience

- Good understanding of vehicle electrical networks and systems

- Practical experience of using factory vehicle electronics toolsets - specifically Bosch VCATS - Not Essential but highly desired

- Team Player. Able to work with an established team of engineers from a diverse range of backgrounds and with a wide range of skills and experiences

- Knowledge of quality tools and problem solving techniques eg. 8D, 5S, pareto & control charts etc.
