Based in Manchester and established for over 35 years, my client is one of the UK’s leading Building Envelope Contractors that specialise in facades, roofing, glazing and maintenance . They supply their services to a wide range of sectors including, commercial, residential, healthcare etc, and last year they delivered a turnover in excess of £100m. As a result of an internal promotion, this client is looking to add an experienced Project Designer to their team at their Manchester head office.
This Manchester based Project Designer will be required to provide quality working drawings for the successful procurement and installation of materials on site and to participate in the design process from project handover to practical completion of the scheme.
My client is looking for a Project Designer with the following skill set:
+Good basic standard of general literacy and numeracy.+Good standard of general IT literacy; proficient in use of Word and Excel. +Advanced knowledge and experience of CAD systems and software.+Good basic working knowledge of the contractual requirements and obligations in respect of the scope of works.+Experience within the construction industry or related industry. +Product knowledge essential together with an in-depth, day-today working knowledge of the technical aspects of the products, plant and machinery the company uses.+Good basic working knowledge of health and safety regulations and environmental legislation.+Good communication and interpersonal skills. 
On a day to day basis, this Manchester base contractor is looking for a Project Designer to perform duties such as:
+In consultation with the Design Team Leader to prepare a drawing programme (based on the preliminary programme prepared by the Pre Construction Design Manager) together with an early RFI's schedule for submission and agreement with the client. +Working closely with the Design Team Leader, to assume responsibility for maintaining the overall design integrity of each project;+Meet with specialist subcontractors and suppliers to co-ordinate the design plan; to monitor and review the subcontractors’ designs to ensure compliance at all times with the client’s drawings so that we deliver a fully co-ordinated envelope solution;+Record and make known any design issues, including potential variations, in a timely fashion to the operations management team and/or the Quantity Surveyor in order that they can request official instruction from the client;+Provide quality working drawings and material schedules for the successful procurement and installation of materials on site; +Attend internal project review meetings with the relevant project team members;+Liaise with the site operations teams and to respond to site queries and actions in a timely manner, as agreed with the Site/Project/Operations Manager;+Undertake regular site visits to ensure compliance with the design plan; where required to amend/modify the working drawings to reflect site requirements whilst ensuring that any amendments are in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations; +Prepare a drawing register, with dates, to record submission dates, comments received, amended drawing issue and final approval date;+Oversee ‘as built’ drawings produced by the Apprentice Designer to insert into the O & M manual;
