Category Buyer - North Birmingham

Oliver William Recruitment are looking for a Category Buyer with a strong marketing background, to join an international gardening equipment retailer based in North Birmingham on a temporary basis.

As a Category Buyer, your duties will include:

  • Supplier selection and annual contract negotiation.
  • Ensure components /materials are supplied to satisfy manufacturing.
  • Supplier development.
  • Identify potential ways to reduce costs.
  • Cross functional support to other departments e.g. Design, Marketing, Finance, Planning, Distribution and Engineering.
  • Management and support for all Indirect purchases over £1000.
  • Supplier visits and assessments, UK and overseas (as and when required).
  • Reduce material lead times.
  • Effective application and administration of processes to achieve the above duties.
  • Deliver VA/VE savings.
  • Deliver PPV savings in line with annual targets.
  • Supplier rationalisation.
  • Support Purchasing Director in specific projects as required.
  • Comply with Health and Safety responsibilities as defined in the company health and safety policy, and ensure these are adequately delegated in the absence of the job holder.
  • Maintain commodity price tracker.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent negotiation, communication and organisation skills, along with an exceptional eye for detail. They will be able to work well under pressure and with people at all levels and must be very flexible, self-motivated and possess a "can-do" attitude. The ideal candidate will be CIPS qualified, have at least 3 years’ direct purchasing experience within the FMCG arena and have a track record of achieving cost reductions. A good product knowledge of plastic materials, rubber mouldings and packaging is desirable.

This is a 12-month, full-time position, offering the ideal candidate a really exciting opportunity to be involved in the procurement team of a multi-million pound, multi-national organisation. The working hours are 8:30am - 4:45pm Monday - Thursday, and 8:30am to 3:45pm on a Friday. The company is looking to pay a salary of £27,000 per annum.
