The Lead Architect has responsibility for delivering the digital technology roadmap from initial influencing of the business vision and determining the future state of architecture to then appropriate ongoing governance that promotes and supports innovation, standardization and modern development practices.

We have recently begun a digital transformation journey and have established MAG-O (Mag Online) as a separate disruptor business. This new division will operate as a tech start-up experimenting and rapidly deliver new digital experiences for our customers. Based in a contemporary environment near to Manchester airport, MAG-O is all about 'the art of what is possible’. The MAG-O business will drive multi-platform digital transformation by developing new omni-channel retail and reservation lines of business across our 4 airports.

The Role:

  • Contribute technical leadership and consultancy across MAG-O and the wider business. Be instrumental in the selection of the platforms and technologies that will deliver the required business capabilities
  • Influence wider IT strategy by building and maintaining key relationships across MAG.
  • Build and maintain the technical roadmaps, constantly looking ahead for future opportunities and blockers and adjusting accordingly
  • Implement the appropriate governance to ensure that decisions made by delivery / engineering teams are aligned with the business strategy
  • Strike a balance between Total Cost of Ownership and the need to upgrade the technology currency and ensure the skills standards and tools are relevant in today’s digital market place
  • Contribute to wider MAG architecture community, sharing best practice and your commercial experiences that deliver synergies through the re-use of patterns, tools and services across the business
  • Form key relationships with our strategic suppliers but also constantly horizon scan for new opportunities to partner and collaborate

You:

  • Industry experience in designing platforms and applications that deliver customer facing solutions across mobile / web / ecommerce platforms
  • Broad knowledge of .Net / Java / Opensource technology stacks plus APIs & Customer data / CRM
  • Has led Cloud based strategies taking into account business / engineering need and balancing with commercial and regulatory factors (data protection and security)
  • Experience working in / alongside agile teams using continual delivery and DevOps techniques
  • Experience of supporting the initiation of new business cases, able to positively participate in workshops with end users, product owners and other key stakeholders
  • Strong commercial acumen, can understand and act on the company vision and strategic goals
  • Keeps abreast of market and industry developments
  • Confident and credible when working with senior execs. Is able to influence at all levels and communicate well to both technical and non-technical audiences
