Solutions Architect

The successful applicant will work in the Enterprise Architecture team. They will be working for the solution architecture for digital, front, middle and back office applications within our organisation.

Purpose of the role:

As the Solution Architect your primary role will be to define or assist in the definition of the architecture of the IT solutions, documenting it and following it up through the Software Development Lifecycle.

You will be asked to act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) of the projects you are assigned to.

You may also be required to provide technical reviews, guidance and troubleshooting assistance from time to time into Build teams. This will require a hands-on approach.

You will at all times provide a professional, efficient, timely and cost effective service to end-users and the company for which he/she has responsibility.

·Review, interpret and respond to detailed business requirements specifications (BRS) as well as the functional and non-functional specifications, to ensure alignment between customer expectations and current or future IT capability
·Apply architectural principles and concepts to design and document solutions that meet business requirements, considering scalability, maintainability, security, reliability, flexibility, availability manageability and re-usability, covering all aspects of solution architecture (Business, application, data, infrastructure and security architecture)
·Provide input to the strategic direction of technology investments to assist in the development of the solution architecture and maximise the return on technology investment
·Work with the build teams assisting them to develop the solutions according to the defined design.
·Act as a subject matter expert on the projects they are working
·Work on specific initiatives to articulate architectural opportunities and develop business cases / project scope or directional changes as appropriate to realise the opportunities.
·Produce high level quotes for indicative build times during the early stages of the solution.
·Participate in reviews to ensure architecture alignment and to facilitate issue resolution and communication.
·Identify re-use opportunities and promote the re-use of components across the architecture.
·Provide consultancy and guidance to build teams concerning architectural policies and standards.
·Promote architecture concepts and discipline across the organisation
·Provide hands-on technical guidance and troubleshooting from time to time and when required.
·Foster a strong relationship with the IT team
·Form a good working relationship with your peers.
·Give your time and a listening ear to the ideas and concerns.
·Work with the Business, Technology Partners, BAs and build teams to determine solutions
·Liaise with users and key suppliers as required.
·Recommend any changes to or improvements in both working practices and service delivery
Act as the deputy chair of the Architecture Review Board

Skills required:

·A strong and proven background in Solution Architecture functions covering all aspects of solution architecture (business, application, data, infrastructure and security architecture)
·Experience in architecting digital solutions
·Experience of architecting / implementing solutions utilising recognised design and architecture patterns.
·Financial Services experience is essential, with a strong preference towards Wealth Management.
·Excellent solution documentation skills
·Good knowledge of a broad set of Financial Services products and flows.
·Knowledge of current and future financial market trends
·Good understanding of the current regulatory environment and impact to Financial Services, in particular Wealth & Investment Management.
·Experienced in building models of problems and their solution spaces, exploring alternative approaches, preparing documents and explaining architectures to sponsors, stakeholders, non-technical staff, architects and developers, i.e. taking an overall system view rather than one specific application
·Very good knowledge of TOGAF (The open group architecture framework), certification will be a benefit

Qualifications required:

Ideally, but not mandatory if experience can be demonstrated:
·BCS Chartered Professional or Fellow in Solution Development & Architecture
·MSc Enterprise Architecture or MSc Software Engineering
·TOGAF certification
