The National Autism Unit works with patients who have a wide range of mental health problems, including psychotic illnesses, mood disorders and anxiety disorders like OCD. What makes our patients more complicated is that they also have high functioning autism, which impacts on their way of thinking and interacting with people.

We are keen to receive applications from compassionate, patient-centered RMNs or RNLDs who relish the challenge of working collaboratively with our experienced MDT to develop and implement high calibre evidence-based care for our patients. Unlike many acute wards, NAU has a well-resourced therapies team who work closely with our nurses to ensure that patients’ care addresses their physical, psychological and social needs.

Nurses joining NAU can expect support and supervision from our knowledgeable senior nursing team as well as structured face to face training to develop skills and competence working with people on the autism spectrum. For newly qualified nurses we offer preceptorship and mentoring to support you to become a highly skilled and competent mental health professional.

We are proud of our team and the care and treatment we offer our patients. The CQC rated us ‘Outstanding’ and commended us on our “track record of success”. Why not read more of what the CQC had to say about us.

We are a team who always strive for improvement and our next target is to be accredited as a centre of the highest standard by the National Autism Society.

We welcome applicants who want to be part of our dynamic and welcoming team and would recommend a visit to the unit to see for yourself the work we carry out with our interesting client group.

If successful at shortlisting stage you will be invited to an assessment on the Friday, 17th February 2017 at the ORTUS learning and events centre.e.
