An opportunity has presented itself to join a dynamic team at the Marigold Centre for Southend-On-Sea Borough Council. On behalf of the team, Reed are seeking 6 Children and Families Workers to work on a permanent basis on a zero hour contract. The work includes Monday to Friday 3pm – 6pm as this is a peak time at the centre, flexibility to work on the weekends is also desirable.

This post will be based at the Marigold Centre, an integrated assessment, contact and therapy service for children and their families. Its aim is to offer comprehensive, independent and professional community based assessments, intervention and contact services all in one place. As a Children and Families worker you will help facilitate and develop this important process.

The successful applicant will play a key role in a well organised team who implement intervention programmes as part of contact for looked after children and their parents, carers and extended family. The work you do will empower these people in meeting the needs of their children by offering support in all areas of child care, communication and interaction.
The main purpose of this role is to supervise contact between looked after children (0-18) and their families. The supervised contact may take place at the centre itself or out in the community. The post holder will be in a position after observation and liaising with other professionals in the team to support parents by extending their parenting skills. Individual work with children and group work are also responsibilities of this role.

To be successful in your application you will need knowledge of the context of contact for looked after children and their families, as well as excellent communication skills both verbally and in report writing. You will need the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. A good knowledge of child development is a must have as well as working well under pressure in what can be, a challenging environment. Experience within a childcare setting is required for this role, whether this be previously in a nursery setting, hospital setting, voluntary work etc. Due to the hours of this post flexibility is required.
