Postgraduate Research Students – Finance Officer

The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,056 – £41,163 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Research Studentships Unit consists of 3 staff providing central financial and administrative support to the departments/centres and faculties who provide the training and supervision to Doctoral candidates at UCL. The role is to provide financial oversight and management reports of the supported doctoral candidates using Excel workbooks and spreadsheets, the UCL financial system, student information system and research council web portal (Je-S). Liaison with the funders (research councils) the UCL professional services and provision of guidance and advice to the department staff on the terms and conditions for using the funding is paramount, as well as ensuring that UCL processes and procedures are correctly used and documented.

The post-holder should be educated to a minimum GCSE level including Grade C in maths and English language. The applicant will either already hold or be working towards a recognised financial professional qualification. Being able to develop and maintain relationships with the users and excellent numeric skills are key. The use of Microsoft Office applications is required and training in Excel to intermediate standard would be beneficial. A good communicator (written and spoken), with well-developed problem solving skills and the ability to adapt to arising situations would assist the post-holder. We can provide training on our systems, processes and procedures but prior knowledge of these would be advantageous, but we would expect the post-holder to have used computerised financial systems and be working in an financial environment.
