Business Development Manager - Retail Tech

We are looking for a talented and motivated Business Development professional to join our client’s market leading the Retail Events division, working across the supplier side of the business and with a particular focus on the Technology sector.
Our client’s brand is the UK’s leading provider of retail industry news, insight and analysis from across the entire retail sector. They are the only business to business brand to cover all the issues facing multiple retailers in one place - they do this with their award winning content and through their world-class events portfolio.
The primary function of this role is to work predominantly within the technology sector to ensure continued engagement with their leading portfolio of awards, conferences and retail festivals. You will be selling delegate attendance, hospitality packages, supporters’ opportunities and networking opportunities.
Alongside the retention and growth of their existing technology customers, you will also identify and introduce new clients to their events, in order to drive the volume of new business required to secure the sustainable growth of their market leading brand. This will include following up on marketing driven leads, re-engaging lapsed clients, self-sourcing potential new clients, cold calling and face to face new business pitches.
In addition, you will be the champion for their new Technology event and you will work closely with SME’s and start-ups in the Tech/ Retail space to ensure they deliver for this section of the market.
To be successful in this role you will need to be an excellent communicator, capable of working across multiple events and managing multiple stakeholders. You will be innovative, passionate and ambitious with a true desire to work in a faced-paced sales environment. You will have exceptional sales skills, including negotiation, influencing, creating urgency and closing.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree Educated
- Min two years in sales, business development or account management
- Proven and successful track record of a consultative new business approach
- Face to face experience
- Retail, recruitment or technology experience preferred but not essential
- Events experience desirable
Skills & Competencies
You will be professional, entrepreneurial, organised and will have strong commercial awareness
You will have excellent organisational, written and oral communication skills and the ability and confidence to identify and win new business
Experienced CRM user (preferably Salesforce)
Must be familiar with general programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Previous experience with a structured sales training method such as DIPIDA
