We are looking for an Editorial Assistant to join our Content team. Working primarily in our South Quay offices, your role within this small and busy team will be twofold.
You will be involved in the creation of quizzes for our Accelerated Reader product, which is designed to verify that students have read a given book with a basic level of comprehension. This will entail reading books and writing quizzes to strict guidelines, matching the quiz’s focus and linguistic complexity to that of the text. While there is a creative element to this work, quizzes follow a specific structure. Furthermore, you will provide editorial support by making alterations to electronically stored copies of quizzes, as directed by editors.
Also you will assist with some important behind-the-scenes work that must be carried out in order for quiz production to begin. This will include entering book details into our database, which requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and consistency of our data. Books selected for quizzing are scanned, and the resulting documents are then assessed for text complexity. You will ensure that these documents match the book accurately prior to this assessment. This will involve some reformatting and retyping of text.
The ideal applicant will be a fast reader with an expert knowledge of English grammar. We require that you be educated to degree level. Experience in technical writing or copywriting - and/or experience of working in a publishing company would be an advantage.
The opportunity to work from home for part of the week may be available once fully proficient in the role.
