Role Definition Statement
To build and maintain positive reputation for the client with the media and other key stakeholders through proactive media relations and communications.
Role Responsibilities/What I need to do
* Working with the Public Relations Manager, the Head of Communications and other staff to deliver effective media relations that increase awareness and understanding of the work of the client among the media.
* Building positive working relationships with journalists in a wide range of media outlets to increase the profile of the Scheme in a positive way that supports our corporate positioning.
* Delivering high quality, creative, targeted and appropriate media relations initiatives that improve the reputation of the client and deliver increased consumer awareness of the client.
* Advising on media relations and contributing to wider client communications, including communications contingency planning as necessary.
* Producing and delivering timely, high quality media releases and associated materials on defaults and other topics for all media.
* Producing high quality written and digital content for use in a wide range of the clients publications and digital channels.
* Contributing to media forward planning, co-ordination and delivery working with other communications staff and managers.
* Working with other communications staff to ensure the timely provision of cuttings and media coverage.
* Proactive monitoring and evaluation of media coverage and producing reports as necessary for the Head of Communications and other staff.
* Responding to inaccurate or misleading media coverage in a timely manner.
* Ensuring the highest possible standards of written media and briefing materials.
* Contributing to the wider work of the Communications Group including campaigns and stakeholder relations as required.
* Taking on any other responsibilities that may be appropriate from time to time within the scope of the role.
* Drafts reports/delivers briefings and presentations and attends meetings as required to ensure team issues are represented

Knowledge and Expertise/What I need to know
* Degree level education.
* Demonstrable success and experience of working with the media in a busy and dynamic media team.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Excellent understanding of modern news techniques and the news media.
* Attention to detail along with the ability to translate complex information into strong, compelling and accurate information, written in plain English, for use in the media and in other channels.
* Strong news sense gained from work in the media or public relations.
* Demonstrable experience of devising, delivering and evaluating successful media relations initiatives.
* Some experience of working with PR agencies.
* Some understanding of the environment in which the client operates is desirable as is the ability to handle sensitive information with great care and discretion.
* Excellent all-round computer skills. Intermediate knowledge of relevant packages, such as Word, Excel, desktop publishing packages, Outlook and Internet Explorer.
* Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
* CIPR Diploma (or other equivalent qualification)
* Knowledge of the financial services industry.
