Reed Education in Stratford are proud to be working with a Sixth Form College based in East London who are looking for a full time Cover Supervisor to join their team.

You will be responsible for supervising the activities of individual, groups or classes of learners under the guidance of the Head of Programme Areas or Course leader, who will be responsible for the setting of appropriate work. This will be both on a planned basis which shows itself on the timetable or on a cover basis in the event of teacher absence.

You will also be required to deliver language, literacy, numeracy and study skills support to students in the Centre. The role will involve assessing student needs, writing a negotiated learning plan with SMART targets and monitoring and recording progress. Support will be offered in a range of one to one, small group and in-class support activities and will require close liaison with teachers. A commitment to equal opportunities and helping students to reach their potential is essential.

Specific Requirements:

• To supervise whole single classes of pupils using material planned by a teacher to engage pupils in learning activities, following lesson plans and instructions from class teacher or other teacher who has set work on behalf of class teacher
• Respond to pupils’ general queries about the work set and keep pupils on task
• Establish productive working relationship with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations of work and behaviour
• Ensure the good behaviour of the pupils and assist with their learning.
• Provide objective and accurate feedback to the teacher on the conduct of the lesson including keeping appropriate records as requested by the teacher
• Provide support for learners who require ALS with a particular focus on literacy and numeracy development, and generic study skills support through a range of activities in the Centre
• Assess ALS students’ support needs, set targets, negotiate a learning plan, record, monitor and track student progress
• Liaise with teachers, tutors and other professionals and attend team meetings to discuss student support
• Assist in the provision of access arrangements for students by acting as reader, scribe, a prompt and invigilator
• Work as part of a team to evaluate and market the service to student groups
• Some students may require personal care assistance. This will be discussed at interview.
• Support the use of ICT and other equipment and materials.
• A range of administrative and support tasks when not required to supervise classes.
