This role will suit a smart, critical thinker with excellent problem solving skills. A lot of our work involves complex discussions with HMRC and requires an investigative mind who is willing to analyse the problem in detail and a determination to resolve HMRC’s concerns as quickly as possible, or guide the client through the process of making a voluntary disclosure. You will be given a diverse portfolio of clients, each with their own intricacies and requiring deft of hand. We offer a variety of challenges and the ability to manage your own workload while owning end to end relationships with clients. You’ll get to work with a variety of clients, across a wide range of industry sectors, from large SME’s to entrepreneurs and other private individuals. This variety of work means you’ll gain broad and in-depth knowledge of tax investigations. Typical duties will include:

• Dealing and resolving a wide variety of tax issues, including but not limited to supporting clients who have committed tax fraud or been accused of fraud, or have participated in tax schemes which may or may not have failed, ensuring the appropriate application of penalty regimes, IR35, supporting clients through HMRC inspections involving UK corporate tax, income tax, capital gains, inheritance tax, • Analysing the tax treatment of funds received in, or kept in offshore accounts • Assisting clients to make voluntary disclosures and bring their affairs up to date • Making time to pay arrangements on behalf of clients • Assisting in tax prosecution defence, tax appeals, trusts, x, HMRC complaints etc. • Drafting solution orientated correspondence with HMRC and clients, carefully considering the best approach for the client. • Attending meetings with clients and HMRC, and formulating and negotiating settlements of tax enquiries and tax investigations. • Supporting managers on planning and advisory matters as appropriate. • Undertaking technical research to ensure cases are dealt with properly. • Applying appropriate legislation, and ensuring that HMRC do too, and checking HMRC’s guidance. • Attending Alternative Dispute Resolution meetings, and potentially Tribunals. • Acting in a proactive and timely manner. Required competencies • Eligible to work and live in the UK. • At least 5 years end to end tax investigations experience, including Liechtenstein Disclosure Facility, Codes of Practice 8 and 9, Compliance checks, • Excellent knowledge of UK tax legislation. • Completely fluent in written English with a flair for persuasive and clear letter writing. • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, with clients and with the team • An investigative mind with excellent problem solving skills, and an ability to voice considered opinion • A dynamic and enthusiastic self-starter with excellent negotiation skills, who has the client’s best interests at heart.
